De-Duplication of Tracks

Hi There,
I have my library of iTunes music. My wife has hers. It's best that we keep them separate on our machines, BUT... would be great to use a sync service to have them sync'd to our NAS...
/Music/Husband/Blah...
/Music/Wife/Blah...
I'd like to just tell Subsonic to look at /Music... and de-dupe the songs for me so that I don't see dupes when I use the software!

If this is implemented, I hope that selecting the individual folders would still show all music from that folder. In other words, when selecting his music, you see all of his music. when selecting her music you see all of her music. when selecting all music, you see everything with duplicates removed.

At the risk of hijacking the thread, but somewhat along the same vein, regarding what rubbersoul posted, it would be nice if you could have "virtual" songs. What I mean by that is that--and related to the parent thread--I have a number of compilations that often contain the same pieces. I've manually done the deduplication, but the missing pieces show up as gaps. It would be great if I could link songs to the compilation, in case I want to play the entire album.

I just wanted to give you a workaround suggestion so you can make this workable with your current setup. You can use a program called foobar2000 to build a symlink folder that has shortcuts to all your music in a custom defined folder/filename hierarchy. This won't take up any extra space on your hard drive, and duplicate instances of tracks will automatically be skipped over during the process. Here is a post where I describe a little more detailed how to use the software (windows only):
