ID3v2.4 Support with Multi-field Artists & Genres.

Good afternoon!

As this is my first post on the forum i use subsonic for quite some years and i really love this project.
I searched on the forum but could not find a request for the following what i want to do.

Now that Kodo (XMBC) supports reading multiple fields for artists & genre according the ID3v2.4 standard i re-tagged my music library.
This way the song Ride, preformed by Guru feat. Omar will show up when selecting both artists, Guru AND Omar.
The problem i'm having now is that Subsonic does not recognize the used separator (in this case '\\' or 'null').
As seen in below example the multiple tags are merged together.

I used Pickard in combination with MP3tag to tag my music, a library of 40k tracks as seen below.

As for the fact that MediaMonkey does not write ID3v2.4 tags but it does read them, and does an good job showing the multiple artists.
Also in MediaMomkey the track "Ride' does show-up when selecting both the Artist 'Guru' and 'Omar'. The same applies for the multiple genres.

This way when you know that 'Omar' was on the track, but can't remember the AlbumArtist the track is still quite easy to find.
This will benefit users with large libraries allot en will enhance the user-experience.

So my requests for the next (major) release ar the following:

    1. Support reading ID3v2.4 multiple tag fields. (and possibly set an custom separator)
    2. Make a cosmetic change on how to show multiple artist tags so they don't merge together.
    3. Make the artists clickable so when you click on the second on that track you see the albums and tracks of that artist

I hope this is something that can be realized, as this is something i think will benefit a lot of users.

Regards, Daniƫl

I have to say this is one of my most wanted features in subsonic.
I've got a pretty big library, so it becomes almost impossible to navigate it if I assign a single genre to each album.

It would be very nice if I could assign more and less specific genres to each album.

by the way, i think in general, Subsonic should rely on MusicBrainz tags when they are available.

Artists, Albums Ids can be usefull to pick the right information on the web app, and avoid some naming issues.

at the moment I have 1044 different genres and all look like this:
"Rock/Alternative Rock/Hard Rock"
A single genre tag isn't really helpful.

Same here. This is pretty much the only feature I'm missing in Subsonic.

I'm using Mediamonkey in combination with a Discogs tagger, so I usually end up with multiple genres for every album, as it stands right now the Genre filter isn't of any use to me.

this is the only thing subsonic needs!

I've been paying for subsonic for years and this is the reason I'll no longer do it.
The devs fail to respond to even popular feature requests and bug reports, even though this is paid software. The ampache dev replied to and implemented this same feature after a single feature request in 1 day! (https://github.com/ampache/ampache/issues/171)
Subsonic really needs to step their PR game or they're going to stagnate.

I have no affiliation to subsonic, except as a user, but I hope you realize that it is a "single" developer. It is a one man team from what I know. I guess it is time you move on. Good luck.

Is there any news if this is considered? I would really like this as well (preferably with an option where you can configure your separator). It already works this way in my MediaMonkey as well as XBMC, so Subsonic is the only one lagging behind.

I'm adding my support to these changes. I would love to use genres as a kind of "auto playlist," enabling me to tag songs with multiple genres and have those tracks eligible for playback on genre radio for all the tagged genres.
