Support for disc numbers

Postby wintermute » Thu Feb 05, 2009 7:02 am

I know, there isn't a standard discnumber-tag in ID3v2, but I think TPOS is being used in most other players/taggers.

Would look better than

01 - First Track of CD1
01 - First Track of CD2
02 - Second Track of CD1
02 - Second Track of CD2
...

I agree this is annoying. The only option now is to have separate folders for each disc - which is a pain if you don't have it setup that way already.

TPOS does seem to be the disc that most use - here is a nice table of mappings between products:
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/help/main_tags.html

I would toss out that it might should look like:
01 - 01 - First Track of CD1
01 - 02 - Seconds Track of CD1
02 - 01 - First Track of CD2
02 - 02 - Seconds Track of CD2

or

Disc 1 - 01 - First Track of CD1
Disc 1 - 02 - Seconds Track of CD1
Disc 2 - 01 - First Track of CD2
Disc 2 - 02 - Seconds Track of CD2

Ah this one's bugging me too...

I thought if the sort order could be changed to album title & track number as opposed to just track number (assuming title has 'xxx disc 1' or similar) that would be a quick fix and relatively easy to do hopefully

When you get to the sorting part of this, I think it would be best to have year or alpha sorting capability, just something you can click on to sort in either way.

I am a new user to Subsonic and so far I really like what you have done but ran in to this issue yesterday when adding tracks to the playlist. I found this thread from a link in this thread http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2021 and hope this issue will be addressed in the next beta.

I dont have much of a problem with that...

try this method

101 - First Track of CD1
102 - Second Track of CD1
201 - First Track of CD2
202 - Second Track of CD2

Coolmax: I have a couple of hundred albums that are double albums. Are you really suggesting that I should manually rename all of those files when there's a perfectly good mp3 tag (that i've used) that could be implemented in the solution instead?

I would like support for Disc Numbers also! It needs to be added to the API also. This breaks sorting also, if I have an album with multiple disks in one folder it shows up as 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2 which sucks :(

I realize I can rename track numbers or create subfolders, but who wants to do that!

I use the same convention as coolmax. If you use something like mp3tag it shouldn't take very long at all to just search for all albums that are 2-disc, drag the folders into mp3 tag, hit the rename button and repeat. Even with 100 albums, that'd take, what? 10 minutes? If you don't want to hit the button so much, use something like Autoit to automate.

I did some further investigation and Subsonic DOES honor Disc Numbers in the sorting. You just can't view or edit them.

Agree: I have a few albums which I haven't got round to sorting out yet where both cd's are in the same folder.
eg track# ,title, disk# and Subsonic sorts them no problem.

As this was a revived old thread it would seem that this issue, if it existed, has been fixed :)

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.
