Use lyrics from tags

I have lyrics for most of my songs stored in the tags, so it would be nice if instead of going out to look for the lyrics, subsonic could just grab them from the tag if they're there.
Thanks for the great program.

I agree. That would be a great feature if it could be implemented. All of my songs have their lyrics embedded in the tags as well.
By the way, thanks for the great app. Me and all of my friends love it.

This would be a great addition to the current, seemingly bugging, lyrics system.

Is there an easy utility out there on the web that will add lyrics to your songs tags? I have over 70,000 songs so it would have to be something that does it automatically. I wouldn't have time to add them manually for my whole library...
Thanks!

Thanks!
I use MediaMonkey, with the Lyricator script. It works great for finding big batches of lyrics.

I'll add my vote to having subsonic display mp3 embedded lyrics if available. This would be a FANTASTIC feature!
If this gets implemented, I'll donate AGAIN!
Cliff

Just got the app (literally), still having a bit of trouble setting it up like I need- but that's another story.
Add my vote to the above suggestion. I found this thread because I wanted to find out if the lyrics source could be controlled.
Some folks (like me) also keep lyrics in a text file. makes it a lot easier to maintain. Anyway I was looking at it (the screen) and thinking that area to the left of the chat bar (where you can show a message and where the ads are shown) would be a great spot to put lyrics. Wouldn't require an extra click or an art obscuring popup. When I got time I was going to see if I could get into the source pages for this app and try using my text files for xml feed. I bet it would work great. I felt confident I could do it with xml- clueless about doing it from the tags. Also, in my case, all my text files are in a separate single folder where the file name matches the song's file name. Should be doable. Only catch are the ones that have time stamps. Trying to make the lyrics actually feed in sync is probably beyond my skills. Just displaying the whole thing per song is what I was thinking.
Marvelous app by the way. If I wasn't laid off I'd probably donate.
cheers

Maybe that's the hook. The difference between the paid and free version is the paid version shows lyrics.
That would be a great incentive to donate!

I was laid off, just had a kid, and STILL donated - that's how much I love this program!
Lyrics from tags would be great.

On the technical aspects of it, the following standards seems to apply for embedded lyrics:
UNSYNCEDLYRICS with a value of xxx||lyrics where xxx is the language code (ISO-639-2)

There's been a while since anyone posted in this thread, but I wanted to jump in and say this would be great. I just found a little program that can add lyrics to my entire 150 gigs of music, and if Subsonic could display lyrics from tags instead of searching (honestly, that search never gives me anything useful), it would be wonderful. C'mon, Sindre, do it! =)

I agree, the lyrics search doesn't always work. I have tried using different lyrics websites to search and they worked a little better but still hit and miss. The id3 embedded lyrics options would be the best way to make sure the lyrics can be viewed all the time.

I would love this option, especially if you could just read them from the ID3 Tag in the same place that iTunes puts them in (I previously Tagged all of my songs with Pollux which got most of my songs lyrics in via iTunes, but now I don't use an iPod Touch anymore, so they are just wasting space in the tag field, but still worth keeping until something else starts to use it.)

I also would like this feature. I use Zortam to auto add lyrics to the tags in all my songs.
