Hi Sindre,
I really love your subsonic.
But my biggest wish would be UpnP support.
So i can feed my MusicPal directly from Subsonic instead of running MediaTomb next to subsonic.
I've seen some of the UpnP servers are using java aswell, so maybe its possible ?
I am not the java expert like you are, but maybe you could have a look into the (non)posibilities ?
Many thx

Agreed, I would love to add UPnP support, but I so far haven't found a suitable open source Java implementation I could use.
Mediatomb ?

Dutchdude: i found a solution for the musicpal and sharing music ....
check out the freecom forum, theres a precompiled library for smb, with a little scripting i'm now able to mount samba shares to the musicpal.
besides you don't need a upnp server its WAAAAY faster than every upnp server i tried with more than 100.000 files.

Just had a look. It's C++ and doesn't support Windows, it seems, so it's not optimal.
Thanks,
Sindre

Great work! I'd love to stream to my xbox 360 so I can ditch Twonky and Ushare. Would this be helpful:

or this

Have you evaluated libupnp? There seems to be a decent bit of documentation for the API and its license is based on the Apache Software License v1.1
I'm no upnp expert, but there may be some useful stuff here:

Also, Sindre, you might want to check out Vuze. They're the old Azureus and Java based. They include a UPnP server in their package and I thnk they're completely opensource.

This isn't a standalone implementation, and I'm not sure how much of it is PlayStation 3 specific, but you could check out
http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/ . It's open source and Java based.

Subsonic is the best media server that I have ever used,
it is exceptionally fast anf easy to use. If it supported UPnP,
that would be the greatest media server ever, and I would finally
be able to ditch my current UPnP server that literally chokes on my, rather big, music collection.
