This may not be possible, but it would be cool when viewing all the albums by certain artist, to have the album year displayed next to the title of the album.

Agreed, that would be very useful. I hope to implement that sooner or later, as well as showing albums in chronological order.

I'd like this feature too, with maybe the option to edit it if it's missing or wrong?

I hope it will be only optionally - cause I really dont care about the year of my album...

I'm for this too. I'm always wondering of a bands discography, what one was their 'third' album or whatever.

I know it isn't for everyone, since each person has his/her own method of naming conventions when ripping tracks, but...

Keeping a band's albums in chronological order was sufficiently important to me that I precede every album name with the year of release (based on id3 tags).

So... the names of, say, all the folders under the "Jethro Tull" folder are:

1968 - This Was
1969 - Stand Up
1970 - Benefit
1971 - Aqualung

etc. etc.

Sorting an artist's albums alphabetically is something I would never, ever do in a hundred years. I know this doesn't help most people who already have their music collections ripped, but it's food for thought for those that are embarking on a long, tedious multi-month session of FLAC or MP3 ripping. Highly recommend putting the "YYYY - " prefix before album names when ripping.

My method exactly :). It works very well, because whatever software you use, they don't really need to 'understand' it for it to be able to sort it chronologically. Plus I simply often work with the folders outside of players.

Please make it optional

I think this would be a great optional per-user feature. Perhaps honor existing Settings/Personal/Year option and just display that per artist as one drill-down through the UI.

I personally do not structure my folders with a preceding date, because I do not place albums into my library until the tags have valid/proper info.

I think giving people the option to modify it (against the db and/or the folder-structure) based on permissions would be helpful for some it sounds like.

Just to keep this feature top-of-mind, I'd vote for it too.
