Better viewing options for single-folder indexes...

OK, it's helps to first understand my folder structure. I have all my music in a folder: z:\Music\. There are also two sub folders in there: z:\Music\SA DJs and z:\Music\Various. Now, if I only add z:\music\ to my folder list, the left index makes it slightly nicer to view the two sub folders when I click them, and it displays the contents on the right. However, the remaining 1,000's of songs are on one monstrous list in the left index, in what is seemingly random order.

Now, if I add Z:\ to my folder list, then I can easily see Music on the left, and when clicked, it displays the contents on the right. This is a little more helpful only because it lists more info such as artist and album. However, it is still frustrating that there is no sorting options or really any other viewing capabilities when viewing contents of a folder... Is this in the workings, or have I completely missed something here...?

To get a visual, here's what it looks like when z:\Music is in my folders list:

In this image, I can see more detailed info only on the sub folders (Various and SA DJs), but not all the rest of the songs in the root of z:\music

And here's what it looks like when I have just Z:\ in my folder list, with Music selected in the index:

I would rather not have all my folders listed on the left (using Z:\ as my folder), however, I cannot get all my tracks listed on the right. And even still, there's simply no good sorting options when in this view unless I add all the songs to play now.

Maybe I'll keep this a running list...

When I am viewing search results, and I click on the Album title, it simply returns to the directory that the song resides in. Since I have a single folder setup, it proceeds to show me all my music. I think logically when you click the album, it should return all the songs on the same album... maybe this could be added to the other aspects: clicking the artist would return all songs from the artist...

Subsonic really isn't made to handle what you're looking for. It is per design I'm afraid. Subsonic has a \\musicfolder\artist\album\ structure as a prerequisite to make some sense of browsing your music collection.

That being said, there are some tools out there to automatically reorganize your music based on tags. If your tags are half decent I would highly recommend that approach.

I'm actually using an iTunes music folder with Subsonic and that works a charm.

Thats what I was afraid of. My tags are all up to date, was just hoping to avoid folders. Thanks
