isnt this a bit out of the realm of an streaming server? i believe most devices running subsonic will either have their own eq (pc, laptop, stereo amp, mobile?, etc) or be connected to one (active pc speakers) or have such inferior sound that it doesnt really matter (passive speakers, mobile)

if you have bad speakers it matters, every selfrespecting audio software needs a equalizer etc,

I agree with trilhaer. Via the web player, the sound is flat via speakers or headphones. Neither my mac laptop nor headphones have built in equalizers.

I would like it as well, i'm using Subsonic allot on public PC's. Those may have an equalizer in the audio driver, but I cannot reach those.
Perhaps a general VST plugin engine that can be linked into the chain, would be perfect.

Why not just use an external player with an EQ, like WinAmp?

I don't think an equalizer could be implemented too easily... since Subsonic doesn't even really stream the music on the web player. You'd have to talk to the folks that make JW Player.

Install an equalizer for your system and you will can use all audio software with your own settings
If you have pulse audio on your linux system, an equalizer is really good

It wouldn't be impossible to add a equilizer in a transcoding chain.
The tool SoX or Ecasound offer the ability to apply a equilizer to audio. It would require a lot of modification to the web interface to get a user-friendly way of controlling it. It wouldn't be possible to change EQ settings "on-the-fly" either.
If this was implemented I would imagine a number of "EQ presets" defined in Subsonic that would apply the appropriate SoX effects in the transcoding chain. The user could specify which EQ preset to use or modify a preset or create a new one.
Would love an equalizer

I don't know how it's done, if so I would have done it. I would love an equalizer because my external speakers suck. My headphones are bose so that's better. Still would be a nice option. Yea I could run an external player but then Im downloading songs, etc. Kinda pain.
my 2 cents thanks

I would like to have it too. Sure you can use an external player like winamp, but why depend on third party apps to make it sound good? I can't always install winamp on a public or work computer. At home I'm always torn whether or not to bypass subsonic for a direct file access using a third party app, but really like the complete access and interface that subsonic offers. Also I like to see what my friends are playing in which I say "oh yeah, haven't heard that in forever,,, cool!" and then fire it up!
+1 for web EQ!
+1 for subsonic! Great product.
