Library filtering?

I told Subsonic to use my iTunes library as it's sorted properly. The down side to this is that now I have a bunch of audiobooks listed in the Subsonic library. Would it be possible to have a filter to restrict them based on the genre tag or something? I have them all tagged, but that's not helping me in this case. I'd like to keep everything in one place so I don't have to deal with trying to keep multiple locations in sync. And, of course, dealing with using 2x the disk space.

Ditch iTunes and use MediaMonkey instead. Then you can split the audiobooks into a separate folder alongside the music folder, Then you can tell MediaMonkey to scan both folders into it's library. Then in Subsonic, you can add one or both folder to the music database separately. If you add both, then you can pick each folder seperately in the Web client, or both if you like.
You will be pleased to find all the functionality that there exists in MediaMonkey. I used iTunes before, but never again.

Let's say you have a directory c:\music\foo\bar which you like to exclude. Then, in the 'foo' directory, create a subsonic_exclude.txt file with the content "bar".
The exclude file may contain multiple lines of text, one for each (immediate) subdirectory or file you want to hide in a given directory.

Sorry to drag up an old post, but this is of interest to me.
Is it possible to do file-type filtering from Subsonic?
Would the exclude.txt file go at the base of the directory share (ie \music\), or would I need one in each album that has the file-type I'd like to hide?
Will this prevent the files from being downloaded by the D button that makes a ZIP file of the folder or album?
Thanks!

I dont think the subsonic_exclude.txt feature works any more
However if you proceed any file with a "." eg: ".bandinfo.txt" it makes it hidden from SS so it will not get downloaded.
If you manage to get subsonic_exclude feature working in 4.5 please share cause I cant

Dang... I was looking forward to using the exclude feature.
I've been wishing for a way to file-filter with SS for some time.
I can't precede files with a "." (Linux hide) unfortunately.
Maybe I'll look into an encryption / shield type program.

Check out a program called Universal Shield.
It allows you to mask files via a filter and hide by file or file-type.
If you still want to view them, add c:\windows\explorer.exe to the trusted programs list.
This is what I'm doing until the subsonic_exclude starts working again...

It seems that I was a bit rash in saying that the subsonic.exclude feature didn't work as I have just noticed that the test album I excluded has gone from SS.
Perhaps it has something to do with updating the search index ?
More testing required

Let me know if you figure it out... It didn't seem to work for me but I didn't give it much of a chance.
