Navigation and memory improvements

Postby twiffy » Tue Jun 08, 2010 1:58 pm

Often, I'll scroll through my (very very large) music collection, find the folder I want, and select a few songs. Then after some of the songs play I decide I want to hear more songs from the same folder -- but if it's been too long, when I press "back" to get to that folder, Subsonic decides to send me to the root directory for music navigation.

Even more often I'll stop what I'm listening to, go to work, and then at the end of the day, open it up to continue listening, only Subsonic has "forgotten" what I was listening to. (This may be because my phone automatically closes the app to save memory -- I dunno.)

Anyway, I would like to see Subsonic

* Remember its history and song list through program closes so you don't have to re-select the same song list

* Be more navigation-friendly. Whenever any song is playing, there should be a way to navigate directly to the folder where that song is being played, without relying on the "back" button, which doesn't always work.

First off, you shouldn't be using task killers/managers on android. I am not going to tell you why, but you should do some Google searches and read the official android developers blog to find the answer if you are that interested.

Yes, when your task killer closes subsonic, its causing subsonic to lose its "place". If you stopped killing subsonic, and let it run in the background, it would let you pick up from where you left off.

I do agree that some kind of crumb trail should be added just like the Adobe Air subsonic player. the default home state of subsonic is that first pane, which does get annoying when you get nested three to four levels deep into your music library.

Uh, wow.

1) I didn't mention anything about using a task killer. If you actually read what I said, I didn't even imply that I was using one, so why did you assume I was? You'd have to be pretty stupid to be killing the subsonic app and then whine that it was inexplicably losing your place. All the problems I mention occur without a task killer installed on the phone.

2) Even if the task killer were my problem, saying "task killers are a bad idea; they make your phone run slower and terminate processes android was intentionally using" is easier than the 30-year-old-living-with-his-mother tone of "I'm not going to tell you why but..."

3) Yeah, a crumb trail would be nice. Anyone else concur?
