Set a bandwith limit for streaming as well

Hi,

first of all thanks for the time and money you invest into this great product.
One thing I'm missing is to not only be able to limit the bandwith for downloading files, but for "normal" streaming as well.

Would this be possible to implement?

Thanks in advance.
Stefan

I agree that it would be a nice idea. Subsonic already sort of has this feature with the "max user bitrate" settings.. but what you're saying is "why should the user spike to my full upload, then stop after they're done buffering". You want to limit the user while they're buffering the song so they can't max out your Internet connection.

I'd kind of like to see this too...

Cheers,
Kirk

Hello,

First, thank you for this amazing program. I use it with all my family and this feature (bandwidth limit for streaming) would be a must. :D

Most external clients (like VLC) stream the file as needed, only a bit at a time whereas the internal flash player download all the song in memory as fast as it can. During this aggressive caching phase, all external clients, with their reasonable buffering, are stuttering.

I can see two possibilities for avoiding this problem :
- A streaming bandwidth limitation for throttling the internal flash player (or any too aggressive caching external player).
- Or, if possible, make jwplayer buffer only a small quantity at a time.

I think the first solution is the cleanest and doesn't change behavior of existing working setups which are not gonna use this feature.

What do you think of it ?

Adrien

I'd like to say I'd also appreciate some sort of bandwidth limiting feature, preferably by-user.

Haven't gotten everything configured yet, but I didn't see any option for this (similar) request:

Throttle bandwidth based on IP (or network)

For example:

127.0.0.1, 10.x.x.x, 172.16-31.x.x, 192.168.x.x = No throttle
Everything else = User defined throtte

That way I can listen fast at home and buffer slowly at work without killing my bandwidth.
