Actual Playlists

Postby therad » Thu Mar 01, 2007 9:33 pm

I am going to assume this feature is not available. I would love to see the playlist be a true playlist that you can move through the songs with the media player. I was hoping subsonic did this but it seems like the only thing you can do is make a playlist and have that streamed to you. Other than that I love everything about Subsonic!

So here is what I would like to see. Either an option where you can choose how the playlist is created. I know you can put playlists in a playlist so this shouldn't be a big problem to do. Simply make a seperate playlist for each song in the "parent" playlist so you can skip through the songs.

Hope that was clear enough. Thanks for the great software!

Hi,

It would be fairly straight-forward to implement a client-side playlist like you suggests. There is, however, a problem with it that I don't know how to solve: If you change the playlist (in the web interface) after you've started playing, these changes won't be reflected in the client-side playlist. That would be very confusing, I think.

I see your point. The only thing you could do is reload the playlist (client-side) after changes are made on the server side playlist. That would be a little unintuitive to say the least.

Subsonic definately is the best solution I have seen for remote streaming of a music library. I've tried vibestreamer. Works ok (other than no transcoding). But I'm really looking for something I can use with media player, which subsonic does excellently. Just wish it was less like listening to a streaming radio station and more like I was controlling the playlist locally, not just a stream.

All in all I think subsonic gets it right with everything else, and I think my feature is a technical issue that might not be overcome in the near future. If I come across any ideas I'll try and share them here if you are interested.

Thanks once again for the excellent program!
