the problem seems to be filename encoding on linux systems. This being said, other linux tools seem to correct automatically, and it would be nice if subsonic handled this a little better

I know international characters has been mentioned before, but I think Asian characters deserve their own thread. Most of the languages previously mentioned are latin-based, so titles can be easily converted to a standard format (without losing meaning) or simply fixed by changing the LANG variable. This is not the case for Asian characters.

I have tons of music in Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. Most of it is in the format: "<original characters> (<romanization>)" so the folders do not even show in subsonic.

Now i don't expect perfect support, perhaps just listing them all after z in some order.... (I don't expect 이승환 (Lee Seung-Hwan) to be in the L's lol)

It's not a problem with display... Display depends on your system's support (specifically, your browser)

The problem is, when a folder starts with an Asian character its contents are not found by subsonic. (at least in my case...)

The two albums starting with asian characters (each with several mp3's) don't show up in subsonic.

subsonic is installed on my windows home server... which is basically Windows Server 2003 SP2

I have norwegian characters in my artist lists, and it works flawless.

This is on Windows Server 2008 standard with Firefox 3.6 and Windows 7.

Updated to 4.3 and now it works.

It's not a problem with windows, windows forces its file structure into unicode, which has advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages, is you don't have to worry about filenames being in the wrong encoding.

Turns out my filenames were in the wrong encoding, and I was able to change that. That being said, I didn't even know they were encoded wrong because all other linux apps just autodetect the encoding and fix it themselves.

So yes, it was my filesystem problem, but it would be nice if this was a little more robust in subsonic.
