First of all, thank you once again Sindre! Amazing app!

Now with the video streaming. Some videos I have is compressed in multiple rar archives.

At home i run xbmc that supports this. Is there any possibility that it's easy to implement in subsonic?

OH, i have the same situation.

XBMC handles it great, would be nice if this feature can go into subsonic too.

RAR isn't free... Most network servers use GZIP (.gz) compression...

Isnt the unrar free?

XBMC is GPL and it has this feature.

unrar is free... I use it, but in a script, that unrars all content that is compressed, so further application's don't need to depend on it :)

XBMC is software
Subsonic is web software.

I think that's why.

And rar for freebsd here http://www.freebsdsoftware.org/archivers/rar.html
So we need to see what Sindre says:)

XBMC has a webfrontend too.

Websoftware = software :)

Subsonic is in java.
xbmc in c/python?

It would be nice if you could automatically unrar albums that are uploaded like you do with zips as well

Exactly, dont forget the uploading folks :)

[OT]
In my book support for RAR to auto extract RAR uploads is more important than using it to stream multi-rar archives which seems like a dirty hack anyway. Arent most download tools able to auto extract so you end up with one or two files instead of 50+ .RAR files?

Anyway, my oppinion would surely be different if transcoding videos for 2+ users wouldnt bring my cpu to its knees :/
[/OT]

But RAR support in any area is never a bad thing, so I support both feature requests.
Here is another thread specifically about RAR support for uploads:
Subsonic Forum Forum Index -> Feature Requests -> RAR decompress support?
