The addition of video is fantastic, I have quite a large Movie collection stored on my server and had been using additional software to serve that out on my local network.

Subsonic having the ability to serve both my music and video is just fantastic.

I was wondering if it would be possible to include some kind of IMDb lookup functionality at some point so that Subsonic automatically downloads DVD covers and film info for video files. This info could then be used in searches based around typical Movie criteria.

Filter by Genre, Actor, Director, Year etc ... you get the idea.

It would be so cool if IMDb movie info appeared to the right of the cover art in a little summary.... Year, Rating, Director, Producer and Synopsis

I realise this is a HUGE feature request to burden Sindre with as most video formats don't offer much in the way of tagging support, subsonic would need some means of storing that data.

Call it an aspirational feature request for some version of Subsonic in the distant future.

What if it was able to read in a boxee movie information xml, it is a pretty simple xml that gets generated, I know for managing my movies I use a an organizer called Media Center Master Which has really helped to organize my movie collection

I might look at Media Center Master. I use TheRenamer to give my video files a consistent naming convention and it then copies them into my main video folder.

I use Swisscenter to serve my videos to an EVA700 media streamer, Swisscenter automatically parses my video folder against IMDb and downloads cover art and, like Boxee, creates an xml file in the folder where the video file is with the IMDb data.

Subsonic automatically uses the Cover art that is downloaded by Swisscenter as its in the same folder as the original video.

Swisscenter has a good interface for my EVA700 but the same interface is used when it's accessed via PC browser, but it sucks on a browser compared to Subsonic and streams to a PC via a playlist file which i open with VLC. Not very PC user friendly.

So like Emergence, I have all the IMDb info in an xml file in the folder with the flick and its cover art.

If Subsonic could use that info it would be cool, but I doubt Sindre will want to use data provided by some random 3rd party parser/server be it Boxee, Swisscenter or something else.
