Wake Server Feature Request and ideas

Hi Sindre and co,

Now that Subsonic has video (huge thanks and kudos for that btw) I am finally able to deploy Subsonic as my main media server (it was Orb).

There is one feature I really miss from Orb which I think would round out Subsonic's offering and make it the complete home media streaming solution - a Wake on Lan feature. My family often attempt to connect to my computer running Subsonic when I'm not there and my computer has gone to sleep - with Orb this was not a problem as you log into their website it pings the Orb server at home and see's the computer as asleep and fires a wake on lan magic packet. Assuming you have everything set up right at home the computer wakes and you're ready to rock.

The problem for subsonic is that you directly contact the server running on the computer at home and if its sleeping it requires the know how to go to a website and fire the magic packet from there - something beyond the capabilities of my family. Maybe however - if, as a Subsonic user, you donate and get your http://****.subsonic.org address whenever you go to this address it could take you to a holding page which pings the subsonic server and if its asleep you click a button which sends the magic packet.

I know this sounds like alot of implementation and it would obviously require webspace etc. However the coding exists for sending the packets easily. The guys over here: http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/welcome.aspx have provided all the tools and coding to make something like this practical.

Anyway I personally see this as the cherry on top for Subsonic and would be happy to get involved in helping it happen - although my technical abilities are somewhat limited. Would love to know what others think.

you should invest in something like this so you can just have your server running 24x7:

I bought a fit-pc (http://www.fit-pc.com/web/) 2 years ago to have subsonic always running it's only 5watt power consumption.
The only problem I have is that my model is not powerfull enough to convert video on the fly...
