Subsonic lets us categorize our music and tag its genre... can we have a way to search by tags other than artist/song/album?

Yeah, something like that would be nice. Really I'd just like the search box to search all of the given fields, rather than just title/album/artist.

This is an amazing system...not just an app. Thanks Sindre.

But, I agree... I'd love to not only be able to search by genre, but also sort by genre.

Thanks again.

I agree this is a feature which would lack such an amazing system. Keep up the great work Sindre we appreciate what you have offered and I am sure we will return with rewards in kind :D

+1 again. I really need this feature. I have too much music to have to sort by artist. I wasted 15 minutes some times scrolling through everything to try to find a good artist or set of songs to listen to for a workout and such. And I can't just make a playlist of everything good for a workout because it won't load due to size. And it's a lot of trouble to make a new playlist every day for my workout. Please! I need a genre feature!

This has been suggested many many times before and I urge you to keep up the requests (as it is a very important feature subsonic needs).

The big thing to note is that subsonic does not have proper tags support and therefore it defaults to folder structure for sorting music.

I've contacted the developer about this issue and his response was:
Sindre wrote:The main reason Subsonic uses folder structure rather than tags is that many people don't have properly tagged music collections.

That being said... It would still be a nice feature to turn on for advanced users.

I've seen that post from Sindre mentioned a couple of times about people not having their music correctly tagged...but some of us do. I would love....LOVE...to have this functionality.

Please Sindre...please build this into the system. I'd gladly donate again for a Subsonic+.

Having an 'advanced search' feature has been requested tons of times. Since people create new threads instead of searching the forum, I feel forced to copy and paste the same reply in a handful of threads to reach people subscribing to the topic.

I've just added an 'advanced search' interface to my Subsonic mod, see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9777&p=50566#p50566.

It allows for combining some twenty different criteria when searching for tracks, browsing all results, and adding all of them for playback. The mod is documented at http://dilerium.se/musiccabinet/.

i would say about that - 'f*ck ppl not tagging right'!!! you can't develop stuff around ppl to lazy to tag the stuff properly!!!!! thats ridiculous!!!
what would be next? - i am to lazy to install my os properly somebody will write some half-witted stuff for me that mostly works? oh shit! they actually did with windows! ;)
anyway, jokes aside - start tagging, start re-coding for the ppl that actually tag within standards!!!!!!
