Stream from an encrypted directory

Postby ioggstream » Mon Jul 25, 2011 12:01 am

Hi all,

before all thx for your work and your nice software!

I'd like subsonic support for encrypted files.

It seems that a kludge just for streaming, I should simply replace the FileInputStream class used in the TranscodingService.java with a new EncryptedFileInputStream capable of decrypting stored files.

Does it sound ok for you?

Thx+Peace,
R.

PS: why did you use java.io instead of java.nio?

Interesting idea, this I supposed would be to hide the file content from someone who happened to come across one of the directories without being logged into subsonic? say ... an ISP on a shared host?

It can be useful:
* on a shared host where each user wants to access his own data
* when using a cloud service where you want to protect your media.

This solution anyway is just for privacy issues, because the server knows how to decrypt (in some way).

To implement a "secure" solution we should need the client to manage the encryption/decryption: but it's far from the scope of subsonic...

Peace,
R.
