Subsonic for Nokia Symbian 3 (Anna) Nokia E6, X7, N8 etc

i have spent plenty of hours looking for an application that can stream music from my NAS Synology server over 3G.
Nothing so far, nada.
The symbian 3 (Anna) is a very capable OS and works like a charm for other streaming like you tube or webb-TV.
Some thinks that Symbian will go away but anyhow there will be support from Nokia untill 2016...some time to sell apps then, even from you in despite of you mention donanations.
In Nokia OVE-store there is none applications that can do anything what I and more people wants to do.
Symbian has almost 3000 soft devolopers so give Nokia a call and make a deal.
I would gladly pay 30 dollars in donation for this programme working on Symbian 3 and I think, cause of the lacks of mediaplayers in OVI-shop that you here actually can make new customers cause the competion among app-devolopers for Iphone and Android seems to be exploding...

I use the built in file manager WebDav in Nokia E6 to browse office files and much more from my NAS and that is no problem with.

Are there any plans making a Symbian 3 application soon?

Hi, I have developed a Subsonic client for Maemo and Harmattan and will likely port it to Symbian 3 if I receive a device. Unfortunately, I lack the funding to purchase one, but if I can obtain a device from a friend, I will definitely do it.

:D

That is nice. Perhaps Nokia develope their media player. It can play tunes with the built in file browser. Anyhow one by one through their media player on Symbian Anna devices.
Would like to see my server directly in the media player so I can que songs and not just click on a song and then wait to choose another one, if you know what I mean?

So... Any news regarding that? Has anyone come across a way to have Subsonic working with Symbian devices?

Yup. I've began porting my Harmattan Subsonic client to Symbian and am close to being done. After I finish a project for my employer, I'll finish this off. You will require Qt 4.7 and the Symbian Qt Quick Components (I'll provide a SIS if needed) One issue I have is the lack of device to test the application on. Nobody I know has one either.

When it is released, I will be putting a Paypal donation link which is not mandatory, but will be greatly appreciated if some people could donate. Source will be available on request, of course.

I have decided to stick to Symbian for the years to come, so if there is an app for Subsonic I will spread the world.
I am not going for Android nor Apple cause of battery and security issues.

Good work, we hope for the best.

:D

Hi

I've been searching for this kind of an app for myself too for last 8 months, but haven't found any. Now when I installed subsonic to my own cpu, I joined here forums and just saw this topic... So what's the situation, are you done with the S^3 (belle) version of subsonic? :)

Yes !! I got a reliable solution on my 10 € phone:

I use Subsonic in "external player" mode.
Then each time you click a play button on the web interface, your browser asks for saving or opening the related play list file.
I do not use this file (discard dialog box) but I use the syntax inside for setting up one time for all my player:

http://YOUR HOST ADDRESS OR NAME/stream?player=THE PLAYER NUMBER YOU CREATED IN SUBSONIC&suffix=.mp3

And my player is .... LCG Jukebox: Create a new channel with the url above --> Menu, playlist, station manager, new station ...

Very happy to find at least one operational workaround , sound quality is perfect both on wifi and cellular networks.
I use the usual subsonic web interface to set up my playlist, once connected LGC Jukebox can be forgotten and will follow automatically your playlist changes within a 6 second delay. In addition LCG Jukebox provides a nice widget displaying the current song info.

Config: Nokia C7 running Symbian 3 Belle.

Hope it can help ! :)
