Allow sharing even if we don't have a .subsonic.org address

Hi,

I have my own domain and when I want to share medias using the new functionnality in subsonic I'm having an error

To share your music with someone you must first register your own subsonic.org address.

Happily, share is created and I can use it by modifying address ( http://yourname.subsonic.org/share/XXXX ) to reflect my configuration.

My request is : Sindre, could you please remove this "Error" which, imho, is not very necessary.

Thanks.

I'm using apache redirectmatch in order to redirect shared requests to my domain.

<VirtualHost xx.xx.xx.xx:80>
ServerName xxxx.subsonic.org
RedirectMatch ^/share(.*) http://subsonic.mydmoain.org/share$1
</VirtualHost>

Just a simple "agreed" to this feature request. I've had my own domain for a long time, and no real interest in having a subsonic.org address and doing the redirect stuff, particularly since running https/tomcat/multiple virtual servers in apache.

Sharing music directly with one's own domain would be a plus. Not a critical need, but if it winds up being possible it would definitely be used!

Cheers,

I agree. I set up individual sub domains for all the web services I host/use. I'd hate to have my map look like:

webcam.mysite.com
blog.mysite.com
photoalbum.mysite.com
myname.subsonic.org
design.mysite.com

Share with its own url

Currently it is impossible to share our music with a Personal URL.
Can you add an option to make this possible?

thank you

PS: Perdon me for my bad English

Hello,

So, I have been able to share my subsonic server with my friends with my own domain name for a while now. Here is a bit of background on my set up. I run my own Ubuntu Server which hosts my website, Vent, Subsonic and other stuff at my residence. All I had to do was open a high number port that is not used by other services and was open at work :) when I found one that worked I was able connect to it from anywhere using my own domain name.

To make it easy I tell people to go to www.mydomain.com/music which redirects to http://mydomain.com:xxxx or https://mydomain.com:xxxx it also works with the Android App. .. I don't know if this helps any of you but I though I would let you know it is possible if you run your own server.

+1 for a configurable "Base URL" option used to construct the share links for servers not using a subsonic.org address. Love the sharing feature in general. Thanks.

I'm doing like itsgambit redirecting http://musique.mydomain.org to http://mydomain.org:XXXX (using dyn.dns' service)
The URL http://mysite.subsonic.org is registered, but I don't want to use it. And by the way, for a reason I don't get, I can't reach this URL from my home. Elsewhere, it works :)
So when I want to share, I have to copy the end of the sharing URL - http://mysite.subsonic.org/share/XXXX - and add it at the end of http://musique.mydomain.org/share/XXXX , and so it works.

So I would be happy just to tell subsonic which URL to build...

[edit] Just found another discussion about the same topic : viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7599
There is some kind of solution... [/edit]
