Feature request:
- Add a 'Genre' column to the 'edit tags'.
- Make search possible on Genre

Thank you

Yes! I finally found something missing from Subsonic and came here to post it, only to find you beat me to it! haha.

I would like to use Subsonic to do all my MP3 management and this is the big thing preventing me from doing it. Would be nice to be able to specify a list of genres in settings and when editing tags you can select them from a dropdown list or type it in yourself. Of course, the ability to set all songs on an album at the same time like some of the other tags would be great.

I am going to retag a lot of my music, and thus require moving it physically on disk since I keep them sorted by genre tag. This is going to cause all my star ratings and comments for the ones I move to go away right? Is there any way around this? Would be neat if I could use Subsonic to move them and thus keep all the associated meta data in tact.

I will definitely implement support for editing genres, but I can't promise that it will be in the next release.

And yes, if you move music files, you will loose ratings, comments and statistics. There is actually one work-around for the technically inclined, but it requires knowledge about SQL. The next version of Subsonic will have an (undocumented) interface to the database, so that expert users can query and update the database directly using SQL.
