Playlist in the Left Pane

Postby trickydick » Fri Sep 02, 2011 3:21 pm

I think the playlist feature would be used more if it was displayed in the left pane along with the music list. I was thinking it could be loaded like a podcast or internet radio.

Things to have loaded (column format) would be the playlist name (no need for extension part), load playlist, download playlist, Settings. The settings page would only be visible to those user that have the permissions to save/delete playlists and would load the loadplaylist.view page in the main pane.

What do you think?

Agreed, it would be great to be able to access playlists from the left pane rather than the actions dropdown.

I have all my playlists in a folder and on a whim tried adding it as a media folder, which on selection, lists out my playlists (yeah!) but unfortunately doesn't allow play. I also tried adding .m3u as a music mask which allows me to select my Playlists folder when I select Music as the media type on the left, but again no go, even though lists are displayed in the center panel like they're ready to go. :/

For those of us who use the web player, it definitely would be a nice feature add!!!

So close and yet so far

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

I'm trying to teach myself java for this very reason! So i figured if I open the source controller file LeftController.java and compare it with the LoadPlaylistController.java, i could see what i need to add to get it to display the playlists....after lookign them over I figures I could just add additional services (what ever they do) to the Controller:

I added:
Code: Select all
import net.sourceforge.subsonic.service.*;

to the LeftController.java. Now how the H$!! do I compile it to a .class file? I'm using Eclipse. If I go to Refactor-->Extract Class...

I have no clue....

I think it would be cool if it were kind of like a drag and snap feature, so you can move everything around how it fits the individual users preferences. I know that most software has these kinds of features, and they are all built of the same platform. Let's get it done guys.

+1000 million on this one.

I really want a section on the top of the left pane which holds all my playlists. As I find it really klunky to use the playlists the way it is at the moment. Ideally I would like to be able to click a playlist from the left hand side, and all the tracks in that playlist appear in the main window, so I can easily see whats in each play list.

What would make this the killer feature would be if we could drag any song from the main window onto the playlist title on the left pane, and the song would automatically add to the bottom of the playlist.

Please make this happen, if only the playlist section, it would make Subsonic, for me, the best and only music player I will use..
