Upcoming features in Subsonic 2.6

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know what I'm currently working on for the next version of Subsonic (2.6).

Support for multiple music folders. Several users have reported that they would like to specify several music folders in the configuration. This is useful, for example, if you have your music on multiple disks, or if you have one directory with music, and another with movies. The index (on the left-hand side) can either show all music folders (merged alphabetically), or the user can select (from a combo box) which music folder to display.

Rating and comments. I'm planning to implement a mechanism for user-defined rating and comments. The rating is similar to what you find in ordinary players (Windows Media Player, MusicMatch, ...) The user can assign a given rating (e.g., from one to six "stars") to a given album. Similarily, the user may add or edit a comment for an album.

Home page. I would like to add a new "Home" page, displaying miscellaneous information, for instance: a list of random albums, a list of highest rated albums, a list of most played albums, information about which users are logged in, which players are connected and what they are playing.

Keep statistics for players on reconnect. You might have noticed that the bandwidth chart is reset if a player reconnects. I would like to keep bandwidth statistics for a while even if a player reconnects.

Internet radio. Haven't thought this one through yet, but it would be nice with some support for Internet radio. For instance, there could be a list of user-defined radio stations on the Home page. If the user clicks on it, the local player connects to the internet radio (either directly, or through the Subsonic server).

Any thoughts on this?

Regards,
Sindre

Sounds great. I don't know if streaming of XviD-coded musicvideos will work, but if it would, then the multiple folder-thing could be useful for me...

Also, I hope you consider making it possible for anonymous users to just look at the collection, but not play/download... That would be great, because then I could use SUbsonic as a music-libray to show other people what I have of music on my disc...

(yes, my english sucks :P But I felt like replying in english since this is an english-speaking forum)

For streaming video, I recommend using the VLC player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/). Remember to add ".avi" etc to the list of recognized media types (in Settings) in order for the movie files to show up.

Yup, I'll consider that.

I already use VLC for playing videos... But I will wait for version 1.6 with the musicvideos, since I have them in a different folder...

I’m using Subsonic every day and thank you for a great program!

I hope it will be possible to start listening to Internet Radio directly from Subsonic. I have saved several radio stations as PLS on my computer and if I could open this from my saved play list in Subsonic I would be very happy :D

I’m using a great player, QCD, for listening and streaming music. You can read more about Quintessential player here

Just wanted to say...

Could we possibly have individual track rating say in the playlist frame?
Let me know what you think.
Thanks!
