Jukebox on remote computer

I would love it if I could open Subsonic on a computer, and have the ability to control that player from my iPhone or any other instance of Subsonic.

It would have the same concept of the "Jukebox," but it would be on the computer of your choice.

In addition, you could control many instances of these "Remote Jukeboxes" from one computer.

If you have a computer in your bedroom and your living area, you can use the computer or device in your kitchen to control what is playing on each of those separately.

Isn't this what the Jukebox feature does already? Using iSub or something for iPhone support.

It would be awesome, if i could control a different player (eg. in the living room) with the Android app.

serak: the current Jukebox can be controlled via clients, BUT it only plays music on the local server.
The request is to add support for controlling players on other clients.

Ah, so clients controlling clients?

Why don't you just install SS on the "client" pcs - they would then become servers and the normal jukebox function would work :?

Sounds good, but the whole point of Subsonic, at least the way I use it, is to have a centralized collection of music. This decreases the annoying pains of managing many sources of music, combining all your music into one, central location.

Your music can remain where it is - you just point the new SS installs at the UNC paths to your existing music collection.

That actually would be a good idea. :D

But it really takes away from the centralized server concept. I have all my configs on my server. In addition, you would have to log in to each server separately to control them. Updating/modifying your server would become a pain. I also don't want to have a full-blown subsonic server running on all of my machines.

I think that management would become increasingly difficult as your music collection grows and the number of custom modifications to the server increases.

Imagine going on your laptop, selecting the right player from the scroll-down, and being able to control the other computers using that player!

This http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8552 seems to be more or less what I am talking about.
With the correct permissions, having each player synchronize with the other instances of that player. Music would then play across all computers participating in that collective streaming. When the user clicks "Stop," all the other instances would receive the stop signal and stop as well.

As for nstalling Subsonic on my client; that is a horrible idea that would make the entire point to having SS in the first place moot.

My server sits in a small room by itself, it doesn't have an audio card so the jukebox feature as it is now is useless for me.

Also, for people with iPhone stereos or other non-computer solutions installing SS on the client is impossible.

I want to be able to control any player for anywhere I want to, so long as it's permission based.

Jukebox mode

Absolutely love the jukebox mode & use it almost everyday but was wondering if it's possible to direct the audio output to a different pc on the same network?
Obviously for this to work nicely I would need to be able to select the output pc from the remote control device (Android app in my case).

Exactly yes. I don't want to have a load of pc's dotted around the house but it would be good (and cheap) to have a few Chinese android tablets around each one plugged into an existing stereo system. The ability to control them from each other would tie everything together beautifully.

One of the features I would love because, just as jonsaddles pointed out, I would use my old Tablet just as "music-client" & control it with my Galaxy Nexus... :)

This is a feature I would absolutely love. My server does not even have the audio service enabled, so the jukebox is useless to me as well.
But if I could tell it to play the music on my PC and control it from my phone, that would be AWESOME!
