PDF support? (or general file support) [resolved]

Postby diffy » Fri Dec 30, 2011 11:33 pm

I have a very very VERY large collection of PDF files, 1TB+.
Although I have these available via FTP and the filenames are perfectly okay, FTP doesn't provide a search facility.
Subsonic's interface and search could be perfect to search for PDF files.

I would like to suggest that Subsonic gets preliminary PDF / general file support, and offers results based on filenames and offers download for "enabled filetypes".

Then in some distant awesome future, the search crawler/lucene could also crawl within the files for metadata and maybe also even actual data.

Maybe someone is doing this allready? If so how are you doing it?
What do you think Sindre? What do others think?

I really really like Subsonic's interface and the way it is engineered, so I'm really eager to get Subsonic working in this fashion.

Never mind, really stupid question :D

I realised I only had to include .pdf .emobi and so on in the filetypes and it works! (tm)

This is so fantastic and just increased the usefulness of Subsonic exponentially for me

BUMP!

I wanted to say that I have found a solution which works similar to Subsonic, but is a general purpose web-filemanager. It's called Ajaxplorer. Runs entirely in php and has lucene search engine, plugins which enable it to stream music (although Subsonic does that much better). Most importantly it is perfect for serving out large file repositories. It also has a flexible user authentication system and comes with Android and IOS apps for browsing :D

Subsonic + Ajaxplorer has made my day.

this is a mirage

how exactly are you guys using this? i added pdf to my "cover art files" filetypes, and no dice. i have a bunch of album art PDFs that i'd love to access through subsonic. are you adding them as music files and just downloading them that way? doesn't that screw things up if you hit play for an album over the API or whathaveyou?
