A dropdown list in the album view would be nice for sure.
i have ALOT of various artists and when we need to load lets say 500 albums or more on same page it takes a bit more time than is fun.
so a dropdown list so it show maby 100 / 200 / 300 ect. would be nice for surre.
hope this could be done on this exelent sound streaming system (for surre love using it every day with my mates).
greetings to sidre from Denmark (keep up the exelent work mate)

Split up the Various Artists folder into subfolders, alphabetically, by year, genre, etc.?

I had a similar issue in that I have way too many "Various Artists" albums to have "VA" as an artist folder.
I instead created a separate folder for Various Artists, so I can toggle between single-artist albums and compilations via the "Folders" dropdown. I just basically grabbed all of the albums in my "Various Artists" folder (which had been filed as if it were an "Artist" folder in the directory structure), and essentially moved it up a level:
c:\music\ArtistsAtoZ
c:\music\Comedy
c:\music\Compilations
c:\music\SpokenWord
So, my dropdown looks like this:
Artists A-Z
Comedy
Compilations
Spoken Word
And when I select "Compilations", they show up in the left-hand panel.
Just my two cents...

There are many ways to organize your library and whatever works best for a particular user is what they should use. It is a good idea though, to remember that as size grows performance will be affected by structure. The database indexes folders, then when you click on a folder SS loads the tracks in that folder. If any one folder has a huge number of tracks it will take a very long time to load.
The bottom line is that you will get better performance if you have many folders with a small number of files in each folder than if you have just a few folders with a huge number of files in each one.
