hello all,

my request is super simple :

I'dd like to be able to delete an album folder from subsonic's web interface.
sometimes when i listen to some random stuff, I just tell myself "damn, this album sucks," and I would like to be able to simply delete it without having to browser anything else.
Is it possible?

Thanks !

Not just music folders , but media files too , and it would be a great feature since we can manage the music collection from the browser , in the same interface , i can't belive such a feature was overlooked by now , in my opinion it would be a great inprovement , and many would like it and use it.

Just my two copper.

Hmm! I wonder how many of those users would like it so much after little Johnny has managed to get an admin password
and deleted their whole media library from the other end of the country . :|
That is one feature request which won't be appearing on my next years Christmas list

Good point BKKK!

Even if you inadvertantly give admin rights to someone now, all they can do is mess with your SS setup. At worst you might need to do a clean reinstall and you're back up. If they could delete the underlying files you'd have a real mell of a hess.

This is a gun you could sure shoot yourself in the foot with.

Don't wannna start a debate here but really , that's not even an argument . We should never give a driver licence to young people too , they don't have driving experience or the same responsability .

P.s: a option in settings or in a file that needs to be edited manually with root acess if you wanna be "extra carefull".

Well seeing as were not starting a debate, I'll just say that I think you're missing the point. This isn't about the maturity level of any given user, but it's a security issue that affects everyone running Subsonic.

As currently structured (at least as I understand it) if someone happens to breach Subsonic security settings while on the site and gives themselves admin priveledges, the worst I can see happening is that they mess with Subsonic. Simply doing a clean reinstall and setting up better passwords or identifying how to fix the breach should be sufficient to get SS back up and running.

If the ability to delete library files is built into Subsonic the host sites are vulnerable to losing some or all of their entire music library.

I see NO benefit to taking this kind of risk when files can easily be deleted from within the OS of the platform. In other words, the risk/reward doesn't make sense. The only way I can see this even being an acceptable option is if we have the ability to select if we want to use this or not when Subsonic is installed, so that those who understand the risk this would be can make their own decision while those of us who would rather not expose our servers to this extent could still be able to use Subsonic.

I promise - I think I've exhausted all I can say about the issue.

It's rare that I do this, as I won't add music I don't already like to my collection, but I have on occasion remoted in to delete files. Windows users can use Teamviewer (or any myriad RDP/VNC/SSH,etc. on other platforms) to do this quick enough, that I see no reason to add the deletion 'risk' to Subsonic interface. If it DID get the capability, I would want it to be optional, and with a LOT of Windows-like prompts (Are you REALLY REALLY sure you want to delete X directory?) before doing so. Still, a few clicks either way, I'd rather have SAFE full admin remote access anyway, makes more sense. 8)

That is true Gary but they could start altering your tags and album art :( but at least that's recoverable.
A deleted file is gone!! especially on my server as there is no recycle bin.

But that does lead me to my main point which is how to mark files (tracks/albums) for possible deletion.
I am sure all of us, especially with sizeable collections (or children  ), have stuff on there which is just taking up hard drive space.
I wanted a way to mark a track/album for possible termination from within SS.
The ideal method would be the ratings tag, but as that, at present, is not used in SS, so I use the genre tag.
Any music that I feel doesn't belong in my library, usually discovered when using a random playlist, gets a genre of "crap" As per my sig
I can then use my media organiser of choice to search for those "crap" files - give em a second listen - yep still correct genre - goodbye!!!

Drifting a tad OT, but BK..I keep thinkin you're selling yourself short by dispensing with an entire genre...you'll miss a few great extra-curricular love affairs by doing so: 8)

What a hoot!!!!

I haven't seen one of those brown and black striped couches since the early 80's

Sadly, I probably haven't been with a girl that young since the early 80's as well.

One manogamous marriage will do that to a guy ...
