pass player name and IP of client to downsample cmd

Postby jboxman » Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:11 am

It would be fantastic if I had access to the IP address of the active client and the name of the player used passed to the downsample command. That way, I can vary the quality of the audio stream based upon whether the client is on the LAN or accessing over a WAN link.

This would be useful in situations where a laptop roams, but keeps the same m3u playlist open in a media player. At present, the playlist has to be downloaded again at the new location using a different 'player' with an appropriate max bitrate for the location, be it WAN or LAN, so my downsample shell script can tell what action to perform. If the IP were available, I could seamlessly adjust the stream quality based upon the IP range.

If there is already a way to do this, I'd love to know how.

Thanks!
