Memory allocation on Synology NAS

Postby blindman » Sat Mar 03, 2012 12:23 am

Hi all,

I loaded this "great" application on a DS2411+ w/ 1G of RAM. Each time the application runs it eventually freezes up in the first few hours to a day and a half. When this happens the CPU memory meter states java is consistantly at 25% instead of the typical 3-8%. Also, each time it seems the SearchService reaches a point of 126000 entries.

Could it be the app/java needs more memory? Any idea how to increase it?

BTW, the SEARCH feature also does not work...maybe it's related.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Craig

Update:

Increased memory allocation to 256 and all is good.

What a great app!

Craig, I seem to be having the same issue on my 712+, but am a Synology newbie. Can you let me know how you allocated the memory, and to which app (Java or Subsonic)?

Thanks, Carl.

Hi Carl,

You can adjust the allocated memory in the subsonic.sh file.

it is located in /volume1/@appstore/Subsonic/subsonic.sh

This is done by SSH into the DS

or since I am not a Linux expert, I use the Config File Editor provided by Merty at http://www.mertymade.com Add this package to you DS box and follow the steps below:

- open Config File editor

- add the following path to the Config File Editor: /volume1/@appstore/Subsonic/subsonic.sh,subsonic.sh

- exit out of Config and log back in then choose subsonic.sh

- change the SUBSONIC_MAX_MEMORY= to what ever you need. (default is 100, I changed it to 256 and it works great)

- save and exit

-restart Subsonic and away you go.

Blindman - thank you for this detailed step-by-step. Subsonic suddenly started working fine - I suspect it was probably having problems during the initial indexing. But I'll bookmark your post in case the problem returns.

Cheers, Carl.

Carl,

Glad to hear. I have ...

11,488 artists
7,335 albums
118,225 songs
777.52 GB (~ 12,078 hours)

So I need the additional allocation of memory for my indexing to work.

BTW, does your lyrics feature work. It does not on mine.

Take care,

Craig

The lyrics feature does not currently work for anyone using the stock subsonic build.
