Here's a link to a great little utility that solves the problem of mp4 files that have to load all the way before the begin playing.

Some mp4 files put the index information at the end of the file. When that's the case, the whole file has to load before it will start playing in the embedded player. Qtindexswapper will reprocess any mp4 files that are structured this way and change the file so that the index is at the beginning of the file and thus can start playing as soon as you click on it. This is really nice for those home smartphone mp4 videos that can be rather large and take a long time to load if they're recorded on HD.
