SubsonicTV 1.5 Beta

Postby joelbrave » Mon Aug 06, 2012 9:20 am

If you have a Roku, and would like to test this version of SubsonicTV, click the following link and then visit the channel store on your device, then click the home button on your remote to install the BETA:

https://owner.roku.com/add/FourPointSevenTest

This BETA requires Subsonic server 4.7 beta 3 or later.

What is new:
* Support for HLS video playback (subsonic 4.7 b3 or later), single or multi-bitrate playback (adaptive streaming). Should handle video files of almost any format (as long as FFMpeg can transcode them)

* Handles older subsonic server versions by disabling extra features and Advanced Configuration menu.

* simple screensaver built in
* advanced settings screen: enable/disable screensaver, enable / disable HLS video playback, multibitrate HLS, and pick from three different bandwidth adaptations
* cancel out of auto-find server dialog
* a few crash-bugs squashed
* If there are multiple videos in a folder, it should try to play them all
* uses content length estimation API call, should reduce glitchy playback of transcoded audio files.

Support for SubsonicTV is of course on the SubsonicTV forum:
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgr ... subsonictv

and NOT on the subsonic.org forum.

This BETA of SubsonicTV will cease to function as soon as the release version is published to the Roku Channel Store.

I'm dizzy here

Can you explain to a non-Roku owner what this package (SubsonicTV) does?

SubsonicTV lets you stream your music library and videos from your Subsonic server to your Roku device.

For more info: http://subsonictv.com/

As I noted in the first post, please don't bother the subsonic.org folks with questions about SubsonicTV or other third party products that work with subsonic.

Beta Updated with (hopeful) fix for spinning dialog / UI lockup error exiting screensaver when music is playing on Firmware 3.1 devices.

New features include Roku 2DAPI based screensaver and a Chat client. To update, open the Roku Channel Store, wait 15 seconds or so and hit the Home key.

*edit*
Note: Video Playback on Roku 3.1 hardware/firmware may seem to have no audio track. This is because the default transcoder settings in Subsonic for HLS playback transcode everything to mp3, and 3.1 firmware devices do not support mp3 audio in h.264 video streams.

If you encounter this try replacing

-acodec libmp3lame

with

-acodec aac -strict experimental

in the HTTP Live Streaming command field under Transcoding

I have a couple of friends that have roku's. Have you been able to fix a long standing issue that other apps have where they cannot connect to SSL subsonic servers?

I think if you did that, you will have a HUGE following.
The developer for another subsonic app for roku stopped responding to emails about fixing the ssl issue.

Thanks in advance!

Current beta version is now updated to support SSL if you have installed a ***commercially purchased certificate***

Roku should support any commercial SSL cert (not self-signed) that Firefox supports, with the following exceptions:
SSL Signing chain depth should be no more that 2, and must not be dependent on rc-4 cyphers

SubsonicTV should also automatically switch on SSL support if it detects your system is using SSL. For example, if your server is joe.myserver.com and you don't click "enable ssl" then SubsonicTV might be able to detect that you are using SSL and switch on support automatically.

If you have a standard Subsonic install with the built in SSL certificate, you may be able to browse content, but unable to play any content, and this will probably not be resolved any time soon.
