One other request, since you are digging into the bowels of the code: this has been mentioned a few times in the Feature Request section, but it would be fantastic for those of us with a large classical music collection if we could get composer tag functionality (searching/editing) in Subsonic.

If going this route, we might also want conductor and grouping tags. I use conductor extensively for my own sorting, and i use grouping to group together music works independent of the album. E.g., a CD might have Beethoven's 5th and 6th on it, so i would leave them together in the same folder/album, but use "grouping" to associate the 4 movements of the 5th together, and another grouping to associate the 3 tracks that make up the 5 movements of the 6th.

Is it possible to expand the recently played section to songs as well?

It would be great to be able to get a list of just the songs played, not the albums.

I quite like the new layout. All the info and top songs is GREAT!
Adding back the index on the left which is mentioned will be good.

One thing the sonos player doesn't seem to be showing the ability to star and unstar tracks.

Okay, I've given this update a couple weeks and honestly, I miss the old layout. The artist index left-nav is my most missed element, and while I'm glad to see the flash player gone, the new player is ugly.

Also the auto-expanding playlist from below is constantly triggered when I'm scrolling through albums, and sometimes it wont snap back, making it really frustrating.

Everything else I'm sold on, but the above make it too awkward to want to deal with, and I'll be rolling back to 5.3 until we see a 'classic' mode, maybe.

The 'by genre' and 'by decacdes' options don't really give me all I want. I would prefer something similar to the Album View in Google Music.

An idea struck me, or, it's an old idea, but possibly relevant if you're changing things around.

When someone is listening to a playlist, a number of albums populate the "last played"-field (at least when it's working). This info doesn't seem very relevant when these albums might contain only one interesting track. Could the playlist appear in the last played rather than the individual albums?

At the API level, it doesn't know the difference. A song plays, and that album is tagged as recently played. There is no context in the API for the server to know what source requested that playback (playlist, folder-file, artist->album via id3, or share, or somebody just handed the URL over to somebody else). There's just no way to know.

A couple of bugs I have found as well as a few gripes:

1. When logged into two subsonic servers on the same browser when I try to play a video file from either account subsonic logs me out instead of playing the file. I have tried different files and types on both servers as well as logging into one first then the other. both servers are hosted on Debian Jessie.
2. When transcoding video files only one processor core is used.
3. When transcoding video files audio is out of sync. This seems to be across the board, various formats for both audio and video as well as the container.
4. The left pane is currently useless. Settings should be a button at the top like it used to be. I rather have the left pane as the index like it used to be.
5. I would like to be able to turn off the bottom pane (play queue/ play button). My htpc only plays video files and it's annoying having the play queue pop up all the time.
6. Not being able to create a playlist for videos this would be great for tv shows / auto play next video.

I love HTVML5 and being able to scrub videos without having to get out of full screen as well as the new filter sort!

Thanks for all of your hard work!

Looks great and loving the support for subtitles

I'm looking forward to getting the left side nav back.
I've experienced more than one time that the folder switching in index tab didn't do anything (firefox 44.0.2 / windows 7) after clearing the cache its functioning again.
Could do with more space... Might I suggest to move the play queue to a tab of it's own?
Will subtitle support be added to android app/client?
Any way to switch video playback to fullscreen?

Otherwise I'm loving 6.0b1... Keep up the good work :D

A bug (feature?) has been ported from the flash player to the html5 player.

Whenever I add a some multiple times into the playlist, ALL occurences of the song get the "currently played" marker at the same time. Also, if the second (third, fourth, ...) entry of the song has been played, the next song that gets played is the one after the FIRST entry.

See screenshot:

in this case I would end up in a playing loop of:
  • The March of the Black Queen
  • Who made who
  • You shook me all Night long
  • The March of the Black Queen
  • Who made who
  • You shook me all Night long
  • The March of the Black Queen
  • Who made who
  • You shook me all Night long
  • The March of the Black Queen
  • .....

I'm happy to say that I've made some major breakthroughs with respect to video streaming.

The next beta will have these video features:

- Selectable audio tracks
- Subtitles support
- Adaptive bitrate streaming
- Fullscreen support
- Scrubber thumbnails
- No Flash required
- No upfront conversion necessary (but still possible as a fallback)
- Works in Chrome, Firefox and Safari (haven't tried other browsers yet)

I'm really excited about this, as I think it's a major step forward for video in Subsonic :)

I'm estimating to have a new beta release ready within a week or two.
