You're right, Wally, I've noticed the same thing. Hope to fix it in 3.6 final.

Thanks!

Beta 2 problem

Postby ghjames » Fri Jan 16, 2009 8:56 pm

After giving beta 1 a shot, I've now tried beta 2 to see if it fixes the external player issue.

Platform: Windows Server 2003
Install: Tomcat WAR
External Player: Windows Media Player
Apache Tomcat/6.0.16, java 1.6.0_05, Windows 2003 (16.1 MB / 26.0 MB)

Using "External Player"

It seems to act differently then beta 1, here's what happening:

1. When the system is clean (no streams running for my player) I start a playlist with 3 songs and the external player starts up and begins streaming as expected.
a. The Icon in the playlist does not move off the first song, even though, but all songs are streamed properly.
b. Only the name of the first song is display on the external player.

2. When the songs in #1 have completed streaming the stream is still left open (it still shows in the status display).
a. Even when the playlist is cleared (using Clear link) and external player is closed the previous player shows in the status display with 0 Bitrate usage. Eventually it clear itself up (its more then 1 hours, I was just not patient enough to wait).

3. While the condition in #2 persists and I try to start the same playlist (3 songs), the external player start. However it displays the following error:
a. Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help.
b. In addition no subsequent songs will stream.
b. If you wait for the condition in #2 to clear-up it puts me back to step #1

I hope this can help diagnose where the issue is.

Port Redirection and Streaming

Postby linuxman » Sat Jan 17, 2009 7:33 pm

Previous Post Can you look at my reply here and answer about what you've changed in how the ports of the streaming for both the webplayer and external players in the last 2 versions because with 3.5 the flash player would still stream with the redirect but the external wouldn't. Both versions of 3.6 won't stream either one but the complete website redirects perfectly and the download functions all work so it has to be how the streams are defining what port to run on that is the problem.

You're right - I've forgotten to rewrite URLs in the new Flash player (to support the case where Subsonic is behind a proxy).

I'll fix that in the next release. Thanks for reporting it!

Re: Playback stops when saving settings

Edit: Just realized that I am not able to use External player. Whatever I set the setting to it will always play in the flash player. Tried restarting tomcat, but it does not affect this.

Edit2: Tested in Internet Explorer 7 and then the external player works. Saving settings does not affect playback using external player, but it still halts when saving during playback on the flash player, also in IE7 that is.

The issue with the external player is then located to while I'm using Firefox 3.0.5 as browser.

I am having a similar issue after upgrading from 3.5 to 3.6beta2, but only on my Windows machine running Firefox v3.1 Beta 2.

When clicking on the "Play All," "Add All," or "Play Random" links nothing is added to the playlist area nor is the new flash player visible (running Flash v10.0.12.36); simply says get the new flash player if the web player is enabled or an empty playlist with the standard playlist links when using either of the external players.

Anywho, this issue with the flash based player (not to shabby....improvement from the last one) or the external player is not an issue when running IE nor is this an issue when using Firefox 3.05 or Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 on Linux (at least not from my experience). This could be an issue with the 3.1 Beta 2 edition of Firefox running on Windows only.

Hope this information will help.

Hi, I've just tried installing 3.6beta2, and while the install seemed to go ok, the service won't start? The control panel has the Service Status as 'Could not get status', and clicking either of the Start or Stop buttons doesn't seem to make any difference?

Cheers :)

Less Memory?

Postby squipple » Tue Jan 27, 2009 12:25 am

Can anyone tell me if their running version of beta 2 is taking up less than 92MB of resident memory on a windows box? I was hoping that the new version would have some reworking so it didn't take up so much memory.

XP works the best with over 2GB of memory. I for one don't care if it's more then 100MB. Memory is cheap now days.

thanks for the quick release
are you planning on adding the "play more songs" button to the shuffle function under "More"?

It's currently only available when the player type is "external", and it will remain like that in 3.6.

I'll put on my todo-list to implement it also for the web player, but I can't promise when or if that will be done.

Thanks,
