HTTP --> HTTPS

Postby _jan_ » Sat Feb 21, 2009 7:21 pm

Hi there,

first I wanted to thank you for the great job you're doing on subsonic. I've tried lots of web music managers/libraries, and subsonic is IMHO the best around.

But I've got a problem since upgrading to version 3.6 (from 3.5): I'm running subsonic behind a reverse proxy (Apache with mod_proxy for security reasons) which translates the traffic to HTTPS. No problem with version 3.5, but since 3.6 the embedded flash player can't stream anymore.

Tracing the traffic (i.e the headers) I found out that the player seems to request the stream via HTTP, not HTTPS - the rest of the URL is perfectly OK (including the hostname translation). Switching to external player, the .m3u files contain HTTP instead of HTTPS URLs too. This wasn't a problem in version 3.5 - there everything worked fine.

Is there a chance to configure the "external protocol" somewhere (or to run subsonic with HTTPS itself as a workaround)? I would be very happy if you could give me a hint...

Many thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Hi _jan_, I'm experiencing the same issue.

I suggested a fix here: http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1301

_jan_ and corentin,

Thanks for the feedback - I hope to address this in the next release.

Hi Sindre,

I just updated to version 3.6 and noticed a few issues with the web player...

It seems that the audio is not being down sampled to the proper bitrate (at least that is what the status graph shows).

The web player multiplies the time of the track too (this has been discussed before).

Also, when using the External player with playlist, the song playing displays the song link.

Issue #1 is a big concern for me. I have limited bandwidth and can't stream full quality to my users.

Flash Player version WIN 9,0,124,0
Apache Tomcat/5.5.20
java 1.6.0_03
Windows XP (85.3 MB / 254.1 MB)
Subsonic WAR install

The files *is* downsampled. But the flash player will try to suck in the downsampled file as fast as possible. Therefore you get these peeks. Note that the down flank really should not have been there. It should had gone to zero at the point where the transfer was finished.

For people accessing your subsonic over internett, they will use whatever bandwidth there is until the file have been transfered. Then they will not use bandwidth until the song have finished playing. Then when the next song starts, it repeats again. This is not a problem since other traffic will use whatever it needs at the same time as the files is transferred.

kdid, thanks for the insight. I was thinking of downgrading to 3.5.
