I have discovered another problem. Probably requires a bit of a rewrite of the way the streamng/downloading is done, but worth mentioning.

When I'm on a train, moving between different networks, the connection is, naturally, lost for a little while. This causes the download to fail, and with no resume support, it has to be restarted. Is resume support planned? Maybe not possible with on-the-fly-encoding (flac-mp3 or downsample), but still..

Is it possible to get the client to ignore invalid ssl certificates?

Right now, it's only usable for me from my home network over a standard http connection. I only allow https out of the network, and the lack of a issue cert prevents the client from making a connection.

I'm having the same problems as Sabre CEO with the android player on my moto droid:

After using the new version for a while I've found that usually more than just the first song in a playlist skips, and the first song (as well as others) usually skips more than once. It seems like a fairly significant issue to have songs skipping. Will this be something that will be fixed?

When listening to queued tracks, songs will repeat rather than moving along the queue. Also, subsonic player will stall for quite some time before moving to the next track. This happens even when tracks in the queue are already downloaded. Basically, playing downloaded tracks on a playlist is far from smooth.

I am transcoding down to 128kbps. Only errors in the log are this:
fatal error: can't update LAME-tag frame!

After playing around with this app a bit more, I'm realizing that the problem with playlisting on the Moto Droid is stemming from the app's inability to jump tracks while running as a background process. I've noticed that the playlist function works better when the app is actively downloading tracks. When finished downloading, however, the app essentially goes to sleep when the current track is done playing. This basically makes the app's queue function useless as a background process.

Thanks for the info barretta. I don't see the same behaviour on my HTC Hero, but I'll look into improving the background playback.

just want to reiterate the issues that have been stated already on the moto droid. there is definitely a problem with subsonic and sleep mode. songs repeat or it takes a long time to move on to the next song. when this happens i hit the top button to take it out of sleep but the phone is really slow to respond and the app runs choppy for a bit after it finally wakes back up then it goes to the next song finally. even out of sleep mode it sometimes repeats song instead of going to next one, but not as much.

Is the sleep mode problem easily and consistently reproducible on your phone?

I have a possible fix, but I'm unable to test it on my phone since I don't see the same problem. I can provide the new version to anyone who wants to test it, just let me know.

Thanks,

The sleep bug is 100% reproducible on my moto droid. I could definitely help test the fix. Let me know!

Sindre -

I installed the latest Android build from the link you provided and, awesomely, I am no longer experiencing the long pauses between songs while in sleep mode on my Nexus One (2.1-update 1). Nicely done!

I was able to introduce a small, ms stutter in playback when I initially put the phone into standby by hitting the power button. But since then, I have taken it out of standby, added something to the queue and let it go into standby both ways (hitting power, timing out) and playback has been perfect. In fact, I think it may have been a coincidence that the stutter happened when putting it to sleep. It may have, instead, occurred when receiving an email notification with a "clear" notification shade. Only hazarding a guess though...

But just to be clear, the Android app is working really great for me now that the long pause between songs is gone. I sent my PayPal donation a few minutes ago.

Thanks again.

Awesome! Thanks for testing it and for donating :-)

I hope to release a final version of both the Subsonic server and the Subsonic client within a week or so.

Cheers,

Tested the build you posted on my moto droid and seems to be much better while in sleep mode. I'll keep you posted after I use it a little more.

I had some time to play with the android app today. Playing in sleep mode works consistently now. still seems to be a few stutters on my droid on the 1st track however, sometimes the 2nd track too and i dont think its a buffer problem but i could be wrong. most of my files are flac and i transcode to mp3 at max bitrate. 1st song usually starts playing after 1mb is downloaded and at work im on a wifi network with pretty good speed. this happens regardless of weather the phone is asleep or not. maybe baretta or others have this problem too?

other than that the new landscape mode is nice but the album artwork regardless of orientation never fits right on my droid. the art needs to be squeezed or expanded automatically somehow. i realize functionality is most important but im just making notes for future versions. larger play, pause, track skip buttons would be nice as well for when in the car.

also wondering if there is a way to play shoutcast streams on the subsonic android app?

thanks, and keep up the good work.
