OK - 4.7 beta 2 testing in the Mancave is pretty much done. I have it installed and tested on 3 platforms.
1. Windows Server 2008 R2 on a dual quad core 2.83GHz Xeon w/16GB ram - Standard Windows install
2. Windows Server 2008 Web edition installed on machine 1. as a VM using 2GB ram. This is a WAR installation Tomcat 6.0
3. WHS v1 32 bit standard Windows installation on an HP EX485 with 4GB ram and upgrade CPU, 3.0GHz Dual Core Xeon.
Common issues:
I still find that I need 3 versions of ffmpeg to get the best performance.
In order to get ogg for Android to work i have to use the ffmpeg from ver 4.4 of SS.
For video playback the build from Zeranoe dated 3/6/12 (the ffmpeg inside is dated 3/7/12) provides smoother playback and can read and use the index data.
The distribution ffmpeg will handle most common uses. Oddly, the WAR installation can play some videos with the distribution ffmpeg that do not play on the standard Windows install. Both work better with the ffmpeg version described above.
4.7 b2 has issues displaying video folders. Inconsistent at best. I have 3 video folders on the WHS install that won't show. They are folders on the local machine defined as shares in the same way as the music folders that do show with identical permission settings. I have had these folders display previously, but then deactivated them while trying to sort out some issues and now they are not populating the subfolders. The defined folder names show on the left side, but when selected no videos show up. I've rescanned 4 times, with and without Fast access mode selected, rebooted, and still the videos won't show. I've seen others report this, but it's the first time it's happened to me that I wan't able to resolve the problem.
Android Players: I use ogg for Android playback. We really need to be able to define the transcodings for the Android Players so that when a new Android user logs in the player automatically picks up the defined Android transcoding. Currently, each new Android player has to manually be edited to use the ogg transcoding.
The same settings that work fine for ogg on Android do not work well on the iSub app. Tracks end early and the player moves to the next track. I don't use iSub, but this is what my iSub owners reported. I had to disable the ogg transcoding for them and then they were fine getting the standard mp3 output. Probably an iSub issue.
Next project: Testing Subsonic 4.7 on Windows Server 8 Release Candidate. That should be fun.
