Any chance some of these improvements will be available in the REST API? Awesome progress though soon I might be able to use Subspnic for my video needs instead of Plex!

Absolutely! Selectable audio tracks, adaptive bitrate streaming and subtitles should be relatively trivial to expose in the REST API. The first two require HLS support in the client.

I like the new UI, it's a step forward IMHO. HTML5 player is great!

* "recently played", "most played" arn't updated (although I see all entries from pre-v6.0b1)
* the playlist doesn't hide sometimes when it would be supposed to (chrome+firefox)
* tight last.fm integration for cover artwork works great for most fetches; however, it would be nice to switch between last.fm and google searches (many unknown artists are not seriously reflected on last.fm)
* any option of disabling "Show all albums", and list them all without having to press that button?
* uploading ZIPs is still painful; I provide my users with a dirtily-hacked html5 multi-file upload form instead, and put a link into top.jsp

sindre_mehus, thank you very, very much for the great work you put into subsonic; the licencing fees are totally worth it from my PoV.

The next beta will have these video features:

- Selectable audio tracks
- Subtitles support
- Adaptive bitrate streaming
- Fullscreen support
- Scrubber thumbnails
- No Flash required
- No upfront conversion necessary (but still possible as a fallback)
- Works in Chrome, Firefox and Safari (haven't tried other browsers yet)

I'm really excited about this, as I think it's a major step forward for video in Subsonic :)

I'm estimating to have a new beta release ready within a week or two.

Sindre

Amazing! No upfront conversion + subtitle support is very exciting.

I'll take a list with no thumbnails - just an album list! This is a must for well tagged classical collections. For example i have Bach albums like this:

Bach: B-Minor Mass - Joshua Rifkin
Bach: B-Minor Mass - Joss Van Veldhoven
Bach: B-Minor Mass - John Butt
Bach: B-Minor Mass - John Eliot Gardiner
Bach: B-Minor Mass - Masaaki Suzuki
... etc

and If I cannot remember the conductor name I really cannot find it very easily. The search button is not quite useful yet, giving partial or unwanted results.

This is important. The current display does not allow you to see the entire Album name, which is essential when you pick an album. Some of my names are 256 characters or more because the performers must be included.

SSL does not work

I can't get the new beta to listen on the subsonic SSL port, despite adding it in the configuration file.

I assume it should work with your self-signed certificate, but it did not. I tried adding my own certificate, but the log said it could not find the jks file, even though the path was correct. And the log says that there is no such thing as the password tag that you specify in the help.

I'm so far THRILLED with this beta! It is much snappier and more responsive for me, and I prefer the new UI as well. Sindre, your continued work on Subsonic these many years is appreciated!

The 6.0 beta is the best thing that has happened to Subsonic, and I cannot wait for things to get even better.

The *only* complaint I have is in the player controls. I quite often will queue up a playlist which I would like to shuffle, and with a substantially large playlist, this requires a TON of scrolling to get all the way to the bottom of the list to be able to press the shuffle button. I'm assuming the white space where the stop/play/pause player controls would allow for these buttons to be placed there, but for now it is an annoyance.

Perhaps even new keyboard shortcuts could be assigned to these commands.

Other than that, rock solid performance, glad to see flash is finally gone, and looking forward to the next release!

Hard to edit image

Using a normal-sized browser window, only half of the album image is shown when an album is selected. But if I want to edit the image, the link is on the bottom-right of the image, and I must scroll right. Scrolling sideways is really difficult because the scroll bar moves up and down if you are not careful.

Move the edit icon to the bottom-left of the image, and make scrolling easier.

Very much looking forward to the next release. I like the new layout ...and yes the only things missing (sorely missing) were the index list in the left pane and video transcoding!

The fact that these two are back on the menu is exciting

Well done Sindre! Thanks for listening to us :) - keep up the good work!

I've been overall happy with the interface changes, and it sounds like the video streaming issues are going to get fixed (conversion is currently failing for about half of my MKVs due to invalid audio transcode options).

One thing that I haven't seen people mentioning is the removal of shared ratings between users. This is really disappointing for users on my server, because most people only rated about 5 albums each, but it was a nice way for people to find music that other users had liked. It sort of defeats the point of the ratings system if other people can't see them. Starred songs and albums already seemed to be available for individual favorites.

Has "recently played" also gone the same way? As far as I can tell it either isn't registering things at all or is broken in some other way. Users on my server liked using it to see what other people were listening to that week, but it currently seems to have stopped registering. I'd really appreciate if it was not made user specific, because again, it's a nice way of seeing what other people like.
