Glad you like the new look!

The new video implementation uses "adaptive bitrate streaming", meaning it's supposed to dynamically adapt to the available bandwidth. (How well this works in practice probably depends a lot on the browser and the OS). It's set up to use between 200 - 3000 kbps. In your example it's already at the lower end (200k).

The conversion is done in 10-second chunks, that's why there are multiple ffmpeg entries in the log. (I'm using a protocol called HLS, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_Live_Streaming)

The current video implementation is probably not ideal for all browser/OS/bandwidth/videoformat combinations, but hopefully it should be good enough in most cases. And hopefully, browser support for HLS will improve over time.

Great!!

Thanks for reply

Marco

It seems to me that this system is worst than the previous.
The selected bit rate is always the lowest and the stream is jerky also in local network.
My users complain and I'm thinking of a rollback .. :(
Implementations are planned on this front?

Bad news. Just purchased a lifetime license a day before to support an opensource project. Also this should be mentioned in changelog as its a major change. Hope there is a chance you will rethink your decision.

6.0 Beta 1 promised subtitles support, I do not see this support in the official 6.0 release. Was it dropped?

closed source bums me out. big time. looks like i'll be moving to an alternative project. Emby is already winning at video streaming, but their music handling is less than ideal.

goodbye, sindre. it's been a fun trip. sorry it had to end after all these years.

Lifetime subscription holder here, very very unfortunate. I will be starting my search tomorrow for an alternative that is and will remain open source. I have been a huge advocate of subsonic for years and it really sucks that this has been changed.

Was 100% of the code refactored with the move to 6.0? If it wasn't, you've created a bit of a legal pickle for yourself...according to the sourceforge page, subsonic was released as GPLv3. All derivative work must also be released under the GPLv3 license, particularly for code contributed by other people; If any of subsonic uses GPL code authored by anyone but Sindre, there would need to be express documented consent of the code relicensing.

Is it because flowplayer is used that the source code isn't available anymore? It seems like VideoJS is a great free and open source alternative that could keep the Subsonic open source. I hope Syndre will consider switching to that player.

Hello Sindre,

I've updated to 6.0 Tday and facing strange things like Artist Infos in a wrong language (spanish here for french) and look like Artist Info use Album Title

Screen capture lot of better than thousands words Image

I prefer rollback to 5.3 who ran like a charm

Oh come now, all you people upset about the new closed source arrangement!

Surely you cant be objecting putting the contents of your entire media library into the hands of a piece of closed source software.

I for one wont upgrade, sorry. If I have to, I will find another solution, its a shame you couldn't find a better way to handle your license keys. Obviously you bought into some substandard products.

Can you please expand on this point? What sort of proprietary software have you put into Subsonic?

As mentioned either on this thread or Reddit, you could easily separate the licenses and/or proprietary code using .gitignore , so that the software that you've already licensed as GPL could remain that way.

I'm a fan of Subsonic and a lifetime license holder (which itself is at odds with the formerly open-sourced nature of the project) but I'm alarmed by this shift. Some more transparency and/or openness on the license change would really help me (and others probably) get my head around this.

I really thought about buying a lifetime license for my server, for supporting subsonic, futher versions and functionality. I'm glad I didn't.

The Fact that subsonic is not open source anymore really disappoints me.

Streaming mkv or avi from the browswer now broken. I have the premium version. It would be nice if this install worked again. How can I get help. I have completely re-installed after having this issue after an update. Very sad as mostly all the videos I have on the server are mkv.

I've had the beta running successfully for a while, but have been having issues with Subsonic finding some new music. I have Stablebit Drivepool running a big drive pool where all my music is stored - I don't think that's an issue though. I added Rob Zombie's new album to my setup, and forced a manual scan multiple times, but it never finds it.....not sure what gives.

Any suggestions what to look for if it's not finding new songs?
