Subsonic server version 3.8 and the Subsonic Android app version 1.0 were released today, so please upgrade.

The major changes from the beta is that the Android app has improved quite a lot - here's part of the change log:

(Android) Downloaded songs can now be played directly from the Subsonic app.
(Android) New feature: Download + Play.
(Android) New feature: Search.
(Android) New feature: Load playlist.
(Android) New feature: Delete from phone.
(Android) New feature: Check for software update.
(Android) Nicer song listing.
(Android) More informative error message when not connected.
(Android) Show artist shortcuts.

Complete change log: http://subsonic.sourceforge.net/changelog.php
Download: http://subsonic.sourceforge.net/download.php

There are a number of long-standing, known bugs related to transcoding, jukeboxing, FLAC etc which I didn't manage to fix in this release. I hope to address this in a later bugfix release.

Thanks for your attention,
Sindre

As soon as I woke up this morning my first thought was "Hmmm I wonder when I can expect the new version of subsonic and its AMAZING android app.". So you could imagine my joy when I glanced at my G1 and saw that an update was available!

I've been in love with Subsonic for some months now and this Android app has taken me over the edge. I haven't donated yet and I actually feel guilty about that! Subsonic is by far the greatest function of my PC and the most killer app on my G1. Good work and THANK YOU!

Question though. The Android app before and after updating for some reason will rarely play through an entire song. More often then not it gets to a point and then abruptly skips right to the next song. I don't know if this is a bug, glitch, or user error. Just thought that I would mention it.

Thanks again for the greatest set of music apps I've ever used!

ps. sorry if this was the wrong place to post this.

Hi Sindre,

congratulations to the new release and thank you for mentioning the planned bugfixes regarding FLAC transcoding and jukeboxing. Perhaps while you're at it you can implement a button to "download as mp3", to save some bandwidth when zipping up whole albums. :) This was previously discussed here:

http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=94

and here:

http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2237

It would be such a useful feature to have. :)

Hope we can see the bugfixed version soon, again thanks for your continued development of Subsonic.

ff :)

Nice one. Thanks again.

Not tested yet - just installed and realised that, even I'm a donator + its also still correctyl licendsed, I have the new "<heart> donate" symbol under the "logout xy" - is this wanted?

Its not that you HAVE to remove it - I'm just wondering ;)

Hi Sindre,

There are a few things that seem to have 'broken' in this release. I'm not sure if they are intentional or not:

1. The custom title, changed in ../webapps/subsonic/WEB-INF/jsp/head.jsp no longer displays. The printed HTML displays: <title>Subsonic</title>

2. The donate button remains in the top toolbar, even though the product has been activated.

I've created logins for several friends and family on my server; this would allow them to donate and support Subsonic development.

The Android app is great, Sindre. That put it over the top for me. A well deserved donation has been made.

I love the download feature, and with Android that makes it possible to have subsonic as my default player. One question: it does not appear that files are transcoded before they are downloaded. Is that correct? If so, should I add that as a feature request?

I was never interested in a smartphone until I learned that there was an Android app for Subsonic. I ditched my old phone for the new Motorola Shole (Droid) phone, and let me tell ya, with the Subsonic app, this is pretty much the end of the line for me and music devices. All of my music, available all of the time, anywhere I get cell coverage. Thank you, Sindre!

Thanks for your great feedback on the Android app, folks!

I have also put my iPod to rest in a drawer, and it feels good.

I also have a quite nice setup in my car. I have a Bluetooth-enabled car stereo, so I stream music wirelessly from my home pc, via the mobile network to my HTC Hero, and then by Bluetooth to the car stereo. Recommended :-)

I'm also happy to tell you that I soon have an updated version of the Android app ready which fixes most of the streaming-related problems in 1.0.

on Youtube, I searched: android market subsonic
