Subsonic Android 1.7 released

Subsonic Android 1.7 is released. It hopefully fixes all known application crashes.

In addition, there is support for headphone controls, including Bluetooth. (It might only work in Android 2.2+).

There is a known issue with the stock music player app sometimes taking focus for the remote control buttons - I'm investigating that.

Thank you for your continued feedback!
Sindre

I will be donating again. Not only do the headset controls work, the lockscreen controls also work!!!! I am running android 2.2 on a Sprint HTC Hero(rooted). This app is really amazing. Subsonic has made my ipod touch effectively useless. Great work and amazing dev support.

Thanks mate, appreciate it :D Is the lockscreen controls part of the Sense UI? I would like to have that on my (non-rooted) Nexus One.

For some reason the subsonic android sometimes completely stops its playback. The application is not crashed as I can still showing the currently song in the notification area. Tapping on the notification brings the player as usual. When I select the "Current Playback" tab, the window appears as if nothing is selected for playing (just like I just started the app).

I had the same behavior with 1.6.

I do not think it's my bluetooth headset playing trick because there are no buttons that can perform such a trick on my headset.

I am running android 2.2 on my non-rooted N1.

Hey Sindre! I updated my app to 1.7, but cannot get the headset controls to work. It still jumps right to the stock music player or Astro Beta, which I use for podcasts (because it supports bookmarking). I'm still using Android 2.1 on my unrooted Incredible, however, so that may be the issue. Can anyone else confirm that headset controls won't work with 2.1?

Also, once again, phenomenal work on the application. You have singlehandedly destroyed the iPod for me and many other avid Android users :)

My Droid X is still running 2.1 and the headset controls also don't work for me. I assume we just need to wait for 2.2.

I have this issue as well, on a Mytouch rooted to Cyanogen 6RC3 (Android 2.2). The minute I leave the subsonic app, by pressing home, switching to another app, anything, playback stops immediately. The notification remains, but playback stops. I do not believe its a memory issue because with other music apps (default player, last.fm) this doesn't occur. Wish I could provide more details, but hope you can figure this out Sindre because it obviously is a very negative experience :)

That aside, 1.7 rocks. I was just updating my wishlist (in my sig) and there were so many awesome features that I removed - you have implemented so much (when did it start preserving the folder structure, awesome!). So a serious thank you, and I will be donating again in the near future.

Hopefully the background playing can get resolved :)

The MediaKeys shortcut application works with Subsonic now!

MediaKeys lets you add shortcuts for play/pause, next, stop, etc. on your home screen, they now control subsonic which should be a nice temp solution until we get a proper widget :)

Offline Player

Hello,
First I love your Server & Android App, many many thanks.
I have found a problem on my HTC Desire with Froyo 2.2 unbranded.
If I like to use the Offline function I can brows the the downloadet Musik, but when I like to play something The player shows Downloding 0KB and nothing ocurs. Then I tried a nother Album and here it works, so I tryed many thinks and Figure out what is the Problem. If I download The Musik in the Online mode and use "Mark All" and "Download" (Marked with Green *)The player is not able to play in Offline Mode. But If The App is downloading the Album threw the Cashe function (Marked with Yellow *) it will work later in offline Mode.
Now the Question does anybody else have the same problem or is it a Desire specific Problem?

Nice Greeting from Hamburg / Germany

Björn

Actually, it might be a memory thing. I noticed the Listen app by Google was doing the same thing. I turned off comp cache and the JIT compiler, and now subsonic doesn't immediately quit when returning home. It does however usually quit if I try to multitask, where as other players can keep going. Don't know what can be done to optimize the memory it takes. Plus it is still odd that the notification remains and playback stops.

And secondly, the old offline mode broken bug STILL exists. When I have no signal, I switch subsonic to offline mode, browse to already downloaded tracks, and hit play. It gets stuck on "downloading 0bytes". Using the default music player to play the same track works fine. This has been in the last 3 or 4 subsonic versions.

My offline mode also gets stuck on downloading 0KB.

Hey TechAficionado did you have to do anything to get your lockscreen controls? I've got a non-rooted HTC EVO 4g running stock SenseUI and I don't have any lockscreen controls. Would be very sweet to have though![/quote]

i recently got a droid 2 and the problem with stuttering while streaming/downloading thru subsonic has come back. i noticed with the past few updates of the android app that this is happening again, even on my old droid 1 with 2.2.

Also just updated my DROID O/S (HTC Incredible). Have problem with SLIDE BAR getting stuck. No problem with playback. "Bubble" on slide bar just stops moving.

And, with multiple tracks, first track repeats. But, once 2nd track is selected from list, sequential play returns normally.

Thanks for all.

Here's how to override the media button handling of the stock music player:

http://android-developers.blogspot.com/ ... nicer.html

(only works with Android 2.2)

It would also be nice if Subsonic handled the audio-becoming-noisy intent:

http://developer.android.com/reference/ ... MING_NOISY

It's quite annoying to walk away from my car and ten seconds later have music start playing from my phone's speaker because the app didn't pause when the a2dp connection was lost. I tried writing an app that would translate audio-becoming-noisy into a media play/pause event, but because of the first issue this just causes the stock music player to start playing its music on top of Subsonic.

Exact same problem here too on Desire. Plus anything I Save To Phone has all tags removed. Been messing around for days now to try fix that 'cos if could get this to save the files it'd be the perfect app!!!
