So, I've asked this before and didn't get a reply then either but when I try to install over the 4.2.beta verison in fedora I get a message that there is nothing to do and it won't install. How do I get round this problem?

Thanks

@stueyboy: Seems like Fedora interprets 4.2.beta1 to be newer than 4.2.

Consequently, this should work:

$ sudo yum downgrade --nogpgcheck subsonic-4.2.rpm

OMG, I have to say this latest update has made Subsonic easily my favorite tool at home and away.

I am a classical musician with an extensive collection that didn't manage well under the artist/album situation. (Think if you wanted to listen to a composer, but have several different interpretations by conductor and orchestra. Which would you search for?)

Now it is super easy even straight from the android screen. The search is now my favorite feature and definitely rivals any other music player.

Thanks so much for this wonderful solution!

Hi Sindre, this is great news! Thank you for your great work with Subsonic.

I have one question tho, i have some ALAC files wich are high quality vinyl rips, and subsonic plays these files at half speed or so, will this be fixed?

I logged into the demoserver at http://subsonic.org/demo/ and tried the searchengine.
When I searched at "Kjøtere" from JohnDoe, I got no mach.
Is this because of the norwegian letter?
Is the seachengine better in this release than it was in the 4.2 beta??

4.2 Slow & missing Songs

HI,

Firstly, I love SubSonic, a great product.

I have however stepped back to 4.1 as I have the following bugs in 4.2

After loading 4.2 I noticed over the last few days:

1. Significant slowing of the Web Pages
2. I have over 8,000 songs, however in 4.2 about one third seem to be missing
3. I use the Jukebox feature alot, in 4.2 I found many songs (no pattern) simply did not play, but play in 4.1. All songs are MP3.

Sub sonic lives on my windows 7 media server and runs about 16 hours a day. About 2 to 3 hours of music is played through the house daily.

I am sure it is my fault, but for now, 4.1 is working well for me.

All the best, many thanks for a great product.

PD..

Are these 96khz ALACs? If so, I imagine this has to do with the transcoder resampling the audio to 44.1.

Perhaps try this change for your ALAC->WAV->MP3 conversion:

ffmpeg -i %s -f -ar 44100 wav -
lame -b %b --tt %t --ta %a --tl %l -S --resample 44.1 - -

This should have ffmpeg resample the audio before its sent to lame (which may not deal well with 96khz wavs?).

Just a guess. Give it a try!

Step 1: ffmpeg -i %s -f wav -ar 44100 -ac 2 -
Step 2: lame --preset cbr %b --tt %t --ta %a --tl %l -S - -

Problems running 4.2 with Mac OS X.5

I'm having a lot of problems upgrading to 4.2 on Mac OS X.5. First, getting major errors with transcoding.

Error logs spit out:
Code: Select all
DEBUG   InputStreamReaderThread   (/Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode/lame) dyld: unknown required load command 0x80000022

On my android I get:
Code: Select all
Prepare failed.:status=0x1 (IOException)

If I try to do a clean install, I get this error on startup from the subsonic Control Panel:
Code: Select all
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Bad temp directory: /Library/Application Support/Subsonic/jetty/1944

It seems that 4.2 fails to create all the necessary components in the Subsonic directory (such as the jetty folder). Am getting all the same errors with the beta release as well.

I'm not getting any of these problems with 4.1 and unfortunately am having to downgrade now. Also, I don't seem to be getting any problems running 4.2 on Ubuntu.

installing 4.2 over 4.1 reset my port number (windows) but otherwise, it works!
