I would like to announce the release of my OS X 10.6 client for Subsonic. It supports local caching, keyboard shortcuts, and media key integration.

Thumper requires OS X 10.6 64-bit.

View the full list of features and FAQ here: http://www.thumperapp.com

- Transcoding (including FLAC) support with Subsonic 4.6 or greater

Looks and works very nice. Any way of incorporating something like CoverSutra and YouControl which allow you to play and search for songs from the status bar of OS X?

That would make this all the more worthwhile.

Thanks for the compliments dcuellar! It is good to hear that it works for you and that you like it!

I'll look into adding a menu bar for controls and search, but it wouldn't be added until a later release. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi Ebasta,

What type of hardware are you running this on? If you would like to contact me via email (support@thumperapp.com), I am sure we would be able to get you dialed in.

Thanks!

Hi,

Thumper runs fine here, but all I get is a listing of the artists inside of my subsonic instance.

When I click on an artist the albums column shows a loading indicator, but nothing is happening.

The subsonic log doesn't show anything about this problem.
Are there any thumper-logs that might show the problem?

Hi Swentz,

What version of the Subsonic server are you running? If you launch the Console application while running Thumper, it should put out any errors that it might run into. Feel free to jet me an email at Support@thumperapp.com.

Thanks!

Thanks thumper. It would be great if I could edit the tags and have more admin options.

The only thing that bothers me is I find myself going back to my admin account on the browser. Since it's bookmarked it's pretty much the same as opening this application. What is going to make Thumper a better user experience for the user than say just opening up the browser? That's what I think these applications need to be focusing on.

If I can provide some feedback I would suggest having a method for better playlist creation. If possible, add ratings per song instead of just albums and store them locally. Keep count of number of times played also. These are things that can help in creating a better playlist creation method and are currently not available through subsonic.

Hi dcuellar,

The web interface for Subsonic is great and will provide the most functionality. Since not all of the features of the web interface (such as ratings, and play count) aren't implemented via the Subsonic API, it would provide an inconsistant experience across clients to implement just in Thumper (even in separate Thumper instances).

Here are some features that Thumper has that the web interface does not:
- Keyboard shortcuts
- Mac Media key support
- Local caching
- QuickTime codec support

I would definitely like to hear more suggestions on what users would like to see integrated into the app!

I am having the same issue as ebasta. I have a core duo macbook pro (not 64 bit). I get this error if I try to run a 64 bit application. Any chance you could compile a 32 bit version too if this is the problem?

Hi Calvintm,

Sorry for not posting this in response to Ebasta. Thumper uses 64bit only libraries, there for it will only run on Snow Leopard in 64bit mode. Since Apple is moving from 32bit to 64bit, I have no plans on adding support for 32bit systems.

Thanks for looking!

I have a problem with Thumper not playing some songs. It seems random to on file well play from a CD rip and then another one won't. They all play fine streamed to my phone or through subair though.

Hi atka,

What codec are you using for these "problem" files? Feel free to jet me an email, I would like to get this figured out. Support@thumperapp.com

Thanks!

OK so far it looks like I fixed it somehow. The only thing I have done is moved my SSL port, restarted subsonic service and added the server again into Thumper and now the "problem" songs seem to be working.

I guess a feature request of sorts is it possible to add folders to the app? Some of my shared folders contain video and it would be nice to not see them when listing to music.

This has to do with the LAME downsampling that Subsonic uses. I'm not sure if I'll add support for downsampling in Thumper in the future or not.
