We really are going to be in need of some alternative codec/player options in the near future. Considering the Roku subsonic app only supports mp4 video files and adobe is giving mobile flash the kibosh, we are really going to need something different to keep this app on the cutting edge!

It seems to me, that since we're already using ffmpeg to trancode video, that it wouldn't be terribly difficult to modify the transcode settings to output h.264 video, which is playable natively within the browser.

I may be wrong but doesn't 4.6 beta 1 already support ffmpeg transcoding in h.264?

I think the issue is with JWplayer. It is flash based. I think we need to upgrade it in the next release in order for it to play properly.

From the JW Player website

Flash & HTML5. Together.
Why choose? Do both.
There has been a great deal of debate about Flash versus HTML5. We think it's pointless. The revolutionary aspect of the JW Player is that Flash and HTML5 work together as part of a single player. Skins, JavaScript, and soon a library of plugins are supported regardless of which rendering mode you choose.
Want Flash for a uniform desktop experience but need to support the iPad? No problem. Standards junkie and only want HTML5? That's cool too. Either way. One player does it all.

I know they support html5, but subsonic's jw player does not currently unless it is a setting you must turn on. That's why I mentioned we might need to upgrade or support the change.
