Lifehacker has mentioned Subsonic (again). Way to go Sindre!

thats how I found out about it.

I was using Orb to stream stuff but I have not been happy with it.

setup subsonic a few minutes ago and am LOVING IT! so far.

great job by the developer and streaming to my Android phone is working fantastic.

I've used Orb (for video transcoding), but its pretty rough around the edges. I've been using Subsonic for 5+ years and its a must have.

* No swapping around music
* Carry one device
* Music is in one place
* Easily shared and backup
* Can't stand itunes

Ah, that explains why the number of downloads was so high yesterday :-)

Thanks for letting us know!

I had a big spike from that too, but had no idea why until now. Awesome!

Wow and they did a whole little subsection on iSub with pics and everything! That's so cool! Wish I had that full song caching implemented already, as they specifically mentioned that it doesn't have it. Oh well, it'll be ready in a couple weeks then it won't matter. :D

Yeah, about that... I deleted the app today and resynced with iTunes when I got home. I kinda think there should be an option to turn that song caching off. lol. I liked how it did it before. D:

I like the local playlists though. That's an awesome idea, and a makeshift solution to Subsonic's lack of playlist permissions.

It might save bandwidth if you're following a playlist, but if you're sitting around all day at work switching from album to album playing 1 song (like I was today), iSub likes to queue the whole thing and maybe you don't wanna buffer a song in advance, maybe you wanna switch albums or jump to another song... instead of saving bandwidth you're wasting it...

Additionally, I wish Subsonic didn't misreport what you were listening to because of the advance buffer. But, I see no way around that because of the way Subsonic reports your current playing song.

Regardless, iSub > Z-Subsonic any day. :D

Cheers,
Kirk

I'm working on a massive bug fix update right now for 2.2 that will include an option to turn off song caching.

Also, I've proposed API changes to Sindre that will fix the problem with incorrectly reported songs. He's looking into what it will take code-wise to make it happen, hopefully it's not to difficult.
