Android App - Cutting off FLAC files transcoded to MP3

Postby kblee » Thu May 26, 2011 8:02 pm

I'm experiencing an issue with the Android app that has me stumped. My collection at home is mostly FLAC and SS is set to transcode to MP3. Certain files (not all) during playback with the Android app will cut off in the middle of the song. If I replay the song, it happens every time in the exact spot as before. I noticed this originally on my Droid 2, but have been able to reproduce it on my Moto Xoom. However, when I stream the very same files on my work PC, they work flawlessly. So - the files are definitely not corrupt.

Any ideas?

Is there any clue in the subsonic logs that might indicate if the encoder is exiting abnormally? It sounds like for some reason the encoder is terminating in the middle of the stream.

If you stream a song and it fails in this way you will need to delete it from the cache on the android device or else every time you replay the song the player will play the corrupted cache version instead of restreaming it. That may be why it appears to stop at the same point every time you play the song.

If you're listening on android, try setting up an option to transcode FLAC to Ogg Vorbis on the android player on the subsonic server and see if the issue persists. (oggenc can read FLAC files so it's only a single stage transcode). This will eliminate both ffmpeg and lame from the equation. If it runs perfectly using only oggenc then you know one of them is the culprit.

Having said that, I've had a lot of trouble with the android player while streaming data. Though once it's cached it plays flawlessly.
