Progressively slow video playback, fixed by refresh

Postby simmo35 » Mon Dec 12, 2011 8:41 am

Hi all,

I've tried to search for an answer and couldn't find anything, so please forgive me if this has already been dealt with.

I am running Subsonic 4.6 and trying to watch movies over LAN. The problem is that the video gets progressively slower and more choppy until about 30-45 mins into it, it gets annoying to the point of needing to do something about it. Fortunately, refresh fixes the problem and it goes back to super smooth video for another short while before it gets choppy again.

It happens across multiple client computers, so I am assuming its a server issue, but I can't figure out what it would be.

Any ideas?

Cheers

The first thing I would check is have a look at your memory settings - SS (java) may be running out of memory.

Sorry ... noob alert.

I'm assuming you mean to do this on the server? Is this how I would do that?

mine's set at 100MB ... I'll try some others, but what defines the limits of this setting?

It's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string :)
It rather depends on the OS you are using and how large is your media collection.
If you look at your log or control panel you will see how much SS is using - give SS a bit of "headroom" and you should be ok.
But look when SS is working hard eg transcoding a video or music file
On windows I use 256MB with a library of 71k tracks but I rarely transcode anything on the fly (Mostly mp3's or flv)

I am having the same problem, but running SS on ubuntu. I can't find any "memory limit" in the settings.

EDIT: I should have searched more before I posted.
