Two user, different mp3

Postby Progi » Thu Jan 12, 2012 6:38 pm

Hello
I'm a newcommer within subsonic.
If this topic is not new please be indulgent.

I have children and I will not give them every rights to all MP3.
How can I manage this within subsonic. Must I handle this over the sound folders?

Please give me an example for two files.
Test1.mp3
Test2.mp3

Thx for any help in this topic.

The only way right now is to install Subsonic Server twice (on different machines or on the same one, although different is MUCH easier) and restrict by only having certain files on certain servers.

There is no access control built in yet except for "access to all" or "no access" (no username and password).

Welcome

Yes it has been discussed but as a new user you may not have realised it from the thread titles - so you are excused
The problem is SS does not allow different permissions for folders for different users.
With the fairly new addition to subsonic (SS) of videos this has become even more of an issue (I wonder why  )
If you search the request section you will find a number of posts about this and I know the devs are looking at issue.
Unfortunately we all have to wait and see.

Well, it's always good to have three mods back each other up. :D
If an answer gets three votes, from three mods, that should guarantee it's validity!

I have no help for you on windows, but for those of you on linux I can tell you it's not that hard to get another service going. The hard part is the music sharing. I created a new root folder for the kids and then used symlinks to allow access to certain artists within my main collection. Works just fine, however a little PITA to set it up and maintain. I put a sizable donation towards this project because I love this program and it has great potential. I hope Sindre can find some time to put in permissions at some point though I am sure it's some work to do it. I'm just happy there is a workaround until he does.

Also, I bought the kids IPods for Christmas and getting music on them is a PITA beyond me talking about it on here (knew this going into it, but dang!). No FLAC support....itunes *ell.... Subsonic saved the day and they all stream whatever they need regardless of format.
