External player help

Postby dcbahr » Thu Jun 07, 2012 11:58 pm

Hi,

I'm wondering how I can get subsonic to play in winamp when I click on a song? I see the external player radio button and the player name box, but how do I direct subsonic to the path where winamp is? Also, is there a plugin that winamp has for subsonic?

Thanks,
Dave

What happen rather depends on the browser you are using but generally subsonic creates a playlist (m3u) which you then open with Winamp.
If you have m3u files associated with Winamp then that app should open and start playing automatically.
With firefox it seems to work but with chrome it doesn't and I have to manually open Winamp and load the playlist.

BKKK now wonders how any of the above will get translated with a screen reader

Ah ok so that's how it's done, yes m3u playlists are defalted through winamp. and what were you wondering what will get translated? the reader gets some words wrong, but that's just the fun of using a speech synthasizer. I'm a musicologist and it really doesn't do well with italian or german names. but you can change the pronunciation if you want of certain words.

I still need help. it doesn't seem to be playing in winamp at all. it keeps defalting back to "player 2" even though I selected winamp as the name of the player I want. I'm using firefox 12 and no .m3u playlists are generated it seems. rather confused here. I just click play and it plays fine in the browser but it would be a lot easier to play it in winamp

You need to create an external player first - then select that in the drop down box.
All that SS does is to create a playlist stream - what happens after that depends on your browser/OS setup.

how do I create an external player? Every time I tell it that the player's name is winamp and select the "external player with playlist" radio button, nothing happens at all, it just continues to play through the web player.

Settings/Players
Clone one of your players and then change it to external and any other settings you may want.
I would suggest you name it eg your name - external so you can find easier in the drop down box.
