Can't seem to stream Radio Paradise

Postby manwithaplan » Thu Nov 01, 2012 8:51 pm

Guys, I used to stream Radio Paradise and several other radio stations. Now it doesn't work for Radio Paradise, though the others still work. Anybody got the secret keys for RP? I'd love to get them working again. Thanks!

I've heard thru the grapevine that Sandy affected their servers which are NOT in Paradise! :)

Edit: Servers on backup power, and here's some links that work:

Yeah, there's something bigger going on here, unrelated to their Sandy outage, which is over now by the way. Can someone try this and let me know what's wrong? Here is the link that worked for 2+ years here in my Subsonic setup:

javascript:void(window.open('http://www.radioparadise.com/flash_player.php','RADIO PARADISE','width=480,height=295,status=no,resizable=no,scrollbars=no'))

The window pops up, and lists the songs/bands and everything like it always did, but no music actually comes out. I've tried unmuting, muting, unmuting again, nothing. Again, this worked for years with this link. I'm using mostly Mac's running Safari or Firefox and get the same results on all of them. Can someone with windows try it, i'd be curious the result.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Interesting. What version of Flash are you using? I just fired up a windows VM and i'm having the same problem with Firefox on the Windows machine. Could it possibly be my latest update to flash that broke this? I am using the very latest Adobe Flash for both my Windows VM and the Mac's. Hmmmmmm...weird. Are you using IE or Firefox or what?

Sorry, I see that you were using Chrome on Windows. Okay, just loaded Chrome here and having the same problem as before on everything else. Weird!!! I am really suspecting that Flash is the issue, maybe I have a bad flash setting or something. Can you tell me what version of Flash you're using? My other radio stations do not use Flash for the link, so maybe that's why they all work fine! Thanks again for the help in t-shooting.

EDIT! Wait a minute, now it just popped in and is working in Chrome/Windows. WTF? More investigation needed...

Okay, the weirdness continues...I can get Firefox on Win7 to play, using the latest 16.0.2 of Firefox and the slightly outdated Adobe Flash 11.3.300.262. Now I will upgrade Flash to the latest and try that too, see if it changes...Yep, that breaks it! Flash was upgraded to the latest 11.4.x build for Windows7, everything else stayed the same on that machine, and now the streaming of Radio Paradise is broken. Google Chrome is the only one that it plays nice with so far (assuming you like to stay totally current on things like Adobe and browser updates from Firefox, etc.). Unfortunately, on a Mac, it doesn't seem to matter what browser you're running, if you're on the latest Flash 11.4.x, it NO WORKIE! This includes Firefox, Safari, and I'm about to try Chrome on a Mac. I've tried resetting some of my Flash settings on several different Macs, and still it doesn't work. The fact that I was able to stream on Windows with Firefox 16.0.2 and an older Flash version, and then immediately broke it by simply upgrading to Flash 11.4.x, tells me I think we've got a Flash issue here, at least with certain browsers (Chrome excluded). The fun continues...

Okay, confirmed Google Chrome works fine on both Mac and Windows, regardless of Adobe Flash version. So, it's the only browser that works 100% it seems. I believe there is a serious problem with Flash 11.4.x that somehow Chrome has coded around and not affecting them, but the problem is affecting Firefox, Safari, IE, and others that DO NOT code around the issue. At least, that's the best I can tell right now. This sucks, as Radio Paradise is easily the best station out there IMHO, and having such crappy inconsistency with it is no good, after many years of stability.

I hope this helps someone out there in the ether, who may be bumping into exactly what I was.

After numerous updates (again  ) on Firefox I can confirm that I cannot get Radio Paradise to play at all.
Web interface pops up ok but the only song I hear is "The Sound of Silence - and not the Simon & Garfunkel version :(
As far as IE 9 is concerned - nothing!! (No surprise there :| )
Yep it looks like we are in the usual FF updates - breaks Flash - Adobe update flash again - works for awhile - rinse & repeat

Yep, except it's even worse actually. It's not just Firefox. Safari is busted bad as well, or better put, the latest 11.4.x Flash updates are not compatible completely with Safari and Firefox (vice versa?).

Thanks for confirming :-)

By the way, in case anyone cares other than me, yesterday's release of Adobe Flash 11.5 has now fixed this problem it seems. For now anyway :-)
