Should I buy a NAS or stick with my fanless pc + external hd

Hi

I started to use Subsonic few days ago. Currently have a Core i5 3317u fanless minipc (http://bit.ly/1CBWnUs) with a 1TB external HD plugged to it via usb.

-The music is on the external HD that is plugged via usb.
-The computer where Subsonic runs is working with a 128gb SD and W8.1.
-The power consumption of the computer in theory is 13W (I can’t confirm how much it is for the external HD, I will edit the post with the info later).

I don’t like the idea of having the computer and the hard drive on 24/7 basically because I don’t know if that kind of computer and external HD is prepared to be on for so long last long under those conditions.

Therefore I was thinking about buying one those NAS where you can install Subsonic as I suppose it could save me money in the long term (maybe less power consumption?) and I suppose that a NAS is really prepared to be on 24/7 without issues.

What do you guys think? Is the NAS investment a good idea or my computer + hd shouldn’t have any issue due to being on 24/7?

Any recommendations for the NAS? I was thinking about a DS215J but I don’t even know if that one can get Subsonic installed on it.

I dunno anything about NAS, but a I have a Raspberry-Pi (Model B) attached to a 2TB Desktop HDD (http://www.seagate.com/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/expansion-hard-drive/) and have been on 24/7 for more than 2 years with no consequences, but a few freezes. Recently I SMART check the HHD and is peachy. Hope my experience help

Yes. It helps, at least I know there are cheaper solutions than the ones I was considering as an alternative of having my actual computer on 24/7

However any info about Subsonic installed on NAS would be appreciated

That computer pulls very little at >20w so I'd just stick with that, it will be fine running 24/7.

My old servers were just normal computers on 24/7 and they lasted years in my early teenagehood, now I have servers that pull over 700w in total and they preform the same just able to do more). I also have a 4-bay ReadyNAS and that pulls 150w out of the wall so I would stick with what you have if you're happy with performance.
